LED Panels for Corporate Events: Pixel Pitch, Resolution and What You Actually Need

The pixel pitch and resolution decisions for LED walls at corporate events — what's needed at different viewing distances and content types.

LED Panels for Corporate Events: Pixel Pitch, Resolution and What You Actually Need

LED panel pixel pitch is the most commonly over-specified (and occasionally under-specified) variable in corporate event AV briefs.

Key Takeaways

  • Pixel pitch in mm = minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres (P3.9 = minimum 3.9m, P2.6 = minimum 2.6m)
  • For most corporate conferences, P3.9 is the correct specification — finer pitch (P2.6, P1.9) is only justified when delegates are seated within 3 metres of the screen
  • Content type matters: text-heavy presentations require better pixel pitch at equivalent viewing distance than photographic or video content
  • LED wall brightness: 1,000 nits is adequate for a low-ambient conference; 3,000+ nits is required for bright outdoor or high-ambient environments
  • P3.9 LED wall rental for a 9m × 5m screen: ₹2.5–3.5 lakhs per day — P2.6 for the same screen: ₹4–6 lakhs per day

The pixel pitch calculation

Pixel pitch is the centre-to-centre distance between adjacent LED pixels, measured in millimetres. A P3.9 panel has 3.9mm between pixels; a P2.6 panel has 2.6mm. The minimum comfortable viewing distance is approximately equal to the pixel pitch in metres — a P3.9 panel should not be viewed from closer than 3.9 metres; a P2.6 panel should not be viewed from closer than 2.6 metres. Below these distances, the individual pixels are visible, producing a screen that looks pixelated.

Matching pitch to event

For a 500-person conference where the nearest delegate is seated 5 metres from the screen: P3.9 is more than adequate — the minimum viewing distance (3.9m) is less than the actual minimum delegate distance (5m). Specifying P2.6 for this event adds ₹1.5–2.5 lakhs to the production cost for a resolution improvement that no delegate will see. For a product display in a trade show booth where visitors approach to within 2 metres: P2.6 or P1.9 is appropriate — delegates are within the P3.9's visible-pixel range. Match the specification to the actual minimum viewing distance in your specific event layout.

Brightness specifications

LED brightness is measured in nits (candelas per square metre). A P3.9 panel's brightness typically ranges from 800 to 6,000 nits depending on the specific panel model. For indoor corporate events with controlled ambient lighting: 800–1,500 nits is adequate. For outdoor events in daylight: 3,000–6,000 nits is required for the image to be legible against the sky ambient. Specifying a high-brightness panel for an indoor event adds cost without visible benefit; specifying a low-brightness panel for an outdoor daylight event produces a washed-out, illegible image.
