MICE in Kerala in 2026: What's Changed and What's Available

Kerala's MICE infrastructure in 2026 is meaningfully different from 2019 — the gaps that previously limited the state's corporate event capability have narrowed.

Key Takeaways

  • ITC Grand Chola Kochi (opened 2024) adds Kerala's first new tier-1 hotel ballroom in a decade — meaningful addition to the Kochi MICE inventory
  • Ayurveda wellness integration in MICE programmes has moved from optional to expected for Indian corporate groups — Kerala is the only credible Ayurveda destination in India
  • The Kochi-Thiruvananthapuram MICE route (a 3-day programme starting in Kochi for the conference, ending in Thiruvananthapuram or Kovalam for the experiential programme) is the emerging format for Kerala MICE
  • Kerala's production vendor market is growing — Kochi now has 3 professional PA rental companies with inventory adequate for events to 1,000 pax

The new inventory

ITC Grand Chola Kochi is the most significant new MICE infrastructure addition to Kerala since the CIAL Convention Centre's renovation. The ITC's ballroom (600 sqm, 5.8m ceiling, purpose-designed loading access from the parking level) is designed to production standards — not retrofitted for events in a hotel lobby conversion. The ITC brand's national events management infrastructure means Kochi now has a property where the events team can draw on institutional support for complex productions that smaller Kochi properties cannot access.

The emerging Kochi-Kovalam format

A 4-night Kerala MICE programme that uses both Kochi (day 1–2 for the conference programme at CIAL or ITC) and Kovalam or Varkala (day 3–4 for the experiential and wellness element) is emerging as the characteristic Kerala MICE format for groups of 80–250. The 4-hour road transfer between Kochi and Kovalam is manageable with a produced group journey (comfort bus, catered rest stop, an orientation to what is coming at the destination). The format produces the best of both worlds: Kochi's conference infrastructure and Kovalam's beach and Ayurveda infrastructure in a single programme.
