Tamarind Tree offers something most Bangalore wedding venues cannot: water. The property sits on the edge of Jakkur Lake on the city's northern edge, and the lake's surface becomes part of the event space in a way that is genuinely unusual for an urban venue. Manas and Deepa drove to the property on a January morning and called us from the lakeside: 'This is the venue. We want the lake to be part of the wedding.'
The ceremony was designed along the lakefront — 300 chairs arranged parallel to the water, the mandap positioned at the shoreline with the lake surface behind it. As the January morning light moved, the lake acted as a mirror, doubling the sky's colour and the mandap's reflection. The photographs from the ceremony — mandap, couple, and reflected sky — are among the most naturally beautiful images our studio has produced in Bangalore.
The floating floral installation was constructed from 600 individual buoyant spheres of white chrysanthemum and jasmine, deployed across a 30-metre radius of lake surface using a system of anchor lines that held the spheres in a pre-designed pattern. At the reception, the installation glowed from below-water lighting as the sun went down, and the lake's natural surface reflections amplified every light source tenfold.
Deepa, who is a landscape architect, said afterward that Tamarind Tree was the only Bangalore venue where the landscaping was the hospitality. 'The lake was the room,' she said. 'Everything we added was just furniture.'
