Thailand: Asia's Most Spectacular Wedding Destination
An Indian wedding in Thailand is a statement of ambition and taste. Thailand combines tropical grandeur — golden beaches, emerald jungle, dramatic limestone karst — with some of Asia's most exceptional luxury hospitality, all at a price point that often surprises couples expecting European-level costs. We have planned weddings across Koh Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Koh Yao Noi, and every destination within this extraordinary country offers something uniquely spectacular.
For Indian couples specifically, Thailand offers several important advantages: easy visa access (Indian nationals receive a 30-day visa on arrival), direct flights from all major Indian cities, a thriving Indian restaurant and catering ecosystem in Bangkok and Phuket, and a warm, service-oriented culture that handles the complexity of Indian multi-day celebrations with grace.
Best Wedding Destinations Within Thailand
Koh Samui: Our #1 Recommendation for Indian Weddings
Koh Samui is Thailand's most versatile wedding island. Its combination of wide, calm beaches (particularly the north coast Chaweng and Mae Nam areas), clifftop settings, and a wide range of luxury resorts from Six Senses to Conrad and Four Seasons makes it the most adaptable destination for Indian wedding celebrations of all sizes and styles. The Six Senses Samui, with its private clifftop villas and organic wellness philosophy, is our single most-requested Thailand venue.
Phuket: Grand Scale and Five-Star Luxury
Phuket is Thailand's most developed and accessible luxury resort destination. Amanpuri — the legendary Aman resort that pioneered luxury beach resort hospitality — sits on a private beach in Pansea Bay and remains one of the world's most exclusive wedding addresses. The Banyan Tree Phuket, with its all-pool-villa design and lagoon setting, creates extraordinary privacy for honeymoon-adjacent celebrations. For larger weddings, the Rosewood and Anantara properties on the cape offer capacity for 500+ guests.
Chiang Mai: The Cultural Alternative
Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is an underutilised gem for intimate Indian weddings. The ancient walled city, surrounded by 700-year-old temples, luxury boutique properties within jungle estates (Four Seasons Tented Camp, Rosewood), and a distinct cultural atmosphere quite different from beach Thailand. Ideal for couples who want their wedding to feel like an expedition to another world.
Koh Yao Noi: Ultimate Exclusivity
For the truly exclusive ultra-luxury wedding, the small island of Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay — accessible only by speedboat — offers properties like the Six Senses Yao Noi that host one wedding at a time on their private island. This is the Thailand experience for couples who want complete privacy and a setting of jaw-dropping natural grandeur.

Indian Catering in Thailand
This is a critical planning consideration. Thailand has excellent Indian food infrastructure in Bangkok and Phuket, but dedicated Indian wedding catering (the range and scale required for a proper shaadi feast) requires careful advance planning. We work with two approaches:
- Flying in an Indian catering team: For weddings where authentic Indian food is non-negotiable, we arrange for a specialist Indian catering team to travel to Thailand with their equipment. The additional cost (flights, accommodation, equipment shipping) is offset by the complete authenticity of the result.
- Thai–Indian fusion with local specialists: For couples who want a more fusion approach, we work with Bangkok-based Indian catering specialists who can deliver high-quality Indian menus locally.
We always recommend a menu-tasting session (video call with your caterer, plus an in-person tasting on your pre-wedding venue trip) before confirming the final menu.
Thailand Wedding Legal Requirements for Indian Couples
As with Bali, religious Hindu ceremonies conducted in Thailand are not automatically legally recognised in India. Most Indian couples either register their marriage legally in India and use the Thailand event as their primary celebration, or they conduct a legal marriage at the Thai Amphoe (district office) in addition to their religious ceremony. Your wedding planner will advise on the approach that works best for your specific situation.
For a comprehensive guide on the legal aspects, the Ministry of External Affairs India has resources on overseas marriage registration for Indian nationals.

FAQs: Indian Wedding in Thailand
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
Indian passport holders currently receive a visa-exemption for stays up to 60 days in Thailand. However, visa regulations change — always verify the current policy at the Thai Embassy website before travel planning.
How do Indian guests reach Thai wedding venues?
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) has direct flights from all major Indian cities. Koh Samui has direct flights from Bangkok (1 hour) and limited direct international services. Phuket (HKT) receives direct flights from Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Factor in domestic transfer time when planning guest logistics.
Is Thailand suitable for a traditional Hindu ceremony?
Yes. Thailand's Buddhist majority culture is deeply respectful of Hindu traditions, and luxury resort staff are accustomed to working with Indian wedding planners. We bring a pandit from India for all our Thailand weddings and have never encountered any difficulty with havan, mandap, or ritual requirements.
