The Art of Wedding Florals in India
Flowers have been central to Indian wedding ceremonies for thousands of years — garlands exchanged at the jaimala, marigolds hung at every threshold, rose petals scattered at the mandap. The tradition is ancient; the execution, at Panigrahana's level, is contemporary art.
Our in-house floral design studio creates every arrangement from scratch — from the bridal bouquet to ceiling installation spanning hundreds of square feet. Nothing is rented off a catalogue. Nothing is repeated from a previous wedding. Every floral composition is designed for one couple, in one specific space, on one specific day.
Key Floral Design Areas at an Indian Wedding
The Mandap
The mandap florals are the most photographed in the entire wedding — and deserve the most design attention. Options range from an entirely floral mandap (every pillar and canopy covered in fresh blooms) to a minimal mandap where a single statement floral arch creates impact. See our mandap decoration guide.
The Aisle
Aisle design sets the processional experience. Options: low petals scattered on the ground; elevated floral stems at varying heights creating a corridor of flowers; geometric arrangements at each aisle row; or a completely floral-lined path. The aisle should be designed specifically for the processional photography angle.
The Entrance & Welcome
The wedding entry installation creates the first impression. A floral arch, a tunnel of hanging flowers, a sculpted floral installation — the entry should be designed for the "reveal" moment when guests first see it.
Centrepieces & Tablescapes
Each dining table is a canvas. Centrepieces can be low (allowing guests to see each other) or dramatically tall (creating visual impact). In 2025, the dominant trend is towards varied-height arrangements within the same table — some flowers high, some trailing low, creating a naturalistic garden effect.
The Bridal Bouquet
The bridal bouquet is worn in almost every photograph — it must be designed in harmony with the lehenga fabric, embroidery colours, and jewellery. We create custom bouquets using a mix of premium international blooms and local seasonal flowers.
2025 Floral Trends in India
- Wild garden aesthetic: Unstructured, naturalistic arrangements replacing tight, architectural florals
- Single-variety impact: Entire installations using one flower species in abundance — all roses, all peonies, all dahlias — for maximum visual impact
- Local and seasonal: Champas, tuberoses, mogra, jasmine, marigolds — Indian flowers used at luxury scale
- Foliage-forward design: Green-dominant arrangements where foliage is the star, flowers the accent
- Dried flower elements: Pampas grass, dried botanical stems, seed pods mixed with fresh florals for texture
- Hanging installations: Flowers suspended from above — rain effects, floral clouds, hanging garland curtains
