Why Winter is India's Perfect Wedding Season
October to March is when India is at its most magnificent. The monsoon has washed everything clean; the temperatures have dropped to their most comfortable; the days are clear and the golden-hour light is extraordinary. This is the season when Panigrahana is at its most active — planning weddings across all 7 of our destinations during India's most beautiful months.
Month-by-Month Guide to Winter Weddings
October–November: The Post-Monsoon Opening
The rains have just stopped. Venues are lush and green; the landscape has a saturated, vivid quality that photographs magnificently. This is the shoulder season — venue availability is better and pricing is more flexible than December–January. Best destinations: Kerala (the backwaters at their most beautiful), Goa (the Portuguese villas draped in bougainvillea at peak colour), Coorg (misty coffee estates, verdant and romantic).
December–January: The Peak Season
The most popular window — temperatures are perfect (18–28°C in most destinations), the festive season creates a celebratory atmosphere, and Christmas/New Year weddings have a particular magic. Book venues 12–18 months in advance for this window. Best destinations: Goa (at its most vibrant and energetic), Rajasthan (the cool desert nights, candlelit fort dinners), Kerala (the backwater sunsets at their most golden).
February–March: The Late-Season Gold
Our personal favourite. Venues have better availability than December–January; the weather is slightly warmer but still perfect; the tourist crowds have thinned. The light in February–March is extraordinary — warm, golden, and long-lasting. Best destinations: Goa (the most photogenic light of the year), Bangalore (the garden city in full jacaranda bloom), Bali and Thailand (early dry-season perfection).
Best Indian Destinations by Season
Goa
Best: November–March. Peak: December–January. Avoid: May–September (monsoon). The entire Goa wedding calendar revolves around this 5-month window.
Bangalore
Year-round — Bangalore's altitude (900m) keeps temperatures consistently comfortable. Best photography: October–November (post-monsoon greenery) and February–April (jacaranda season).
Kerala
October–March for backwater and south coast venues. The east coast has a different weather pattern — check by specific region.
Rajasthan (for Palace Weddings)
October–February for the magnificent fort and palace venues — Umaid Bhawan, Samode Palace, Shahpura Bagh. The desert cold in January requires careful guest comfort planning.
