Thirty-six pool villas carved into a cliff above Weligama Bay, a full property buyout, and for three days the whole cape was exclusively theirs — an experience no five-star hotel could replicate.
Cape Weligama sits on a private headland on Sri Lanka's south coast, its 36 pool villas carved into the cliff face above one of the country's most beautiful stretches of ocean. The property can be purchased in its entirety — every villa, every space, every experience — and when Adhith and Rithika asked whether this was possible for three days around their wedding, the answer was yes. They did not hesitate.
The ceremony at the Infinity Edge — the headland's furthermost point, where the infinity pool appears to continue into Weligama Bay below — was the spatial and emotional climax of three days of preparation. Fifty chairs arranged in a semicircle at the cliff's edge, the bay 30 metres below, and a ceremony conducted in the brief blue of the Sri Lankan morning before the day's heat arrived.
The open-air pavilion reception, with the bay visible from every table, extended the ceremony's spatial generosity into the evening. But the moment that guests described most consistently afterward was the following morning — waking up in their cliff villas to the sound of the ocean, walking to breakfast through the cape's gardens, swimming in the bay below at 10am as though the entire coast belonged to them. For three days, it did.
Rithika wrote to us six months after the wedding: 'I think about Cape Weligama every day. Not just the wedding — the whole experience of being there, of having that place as ours for three days. I had never felt that kind of belonging to a landscape before. I am not sure I will again.'
