Wedding return gifts and thamboolam bags in Bangalore

What goes in a thamboolam bag

Families fill a thamboolam in their own way, so ask the elders on both sides what yours expects before you buy anything. Ready-made sets show what suppliers put in. Kottanz's Swagatam box holds a metre of Banarasi brocade, a matching bangle and a small haldi-kumkum pouch. BoxUp's Vivaha Thamboolam packs a kumkum set, bangles, blouse fabric, a gajra scrunchie, floral earrings and a card into a paisley box.

For a long guest list, you can buy plain bags and fill them at home. Wedtree sells a cotton cloth bag made for thamboolam at ₹125, with a zip and a choice of prints, and Kottanz's batik thamboolam set comes with a jute bag for ₹300.

Kumkum boxes, brass and German silver

A kumkum box, a diya or a small tray is something a guest can use at home long after the wedding. WOWIN Gifts in Whitefield lists brass kumkum boxes from ₹99 a piece, with brass plates, urlis, German silver baskets and Meenakari jewel boxes in the same range. Wedtree carries kumkum and haldi holders, brass diyas and German silver, and has stores in Jayanagar and HSR Layout.

Know which metal you are paying for. German silver, also called nickel silver, is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc with no silver in it, and it is often the base under silver plating. On the day, both look like silver. If your family expects solid silver, ask the seller to write the metal and its purity on the invoice.

Sweets, dry fruit and plants

Sweet boxes get eaten, so nobody has to find a shelf for them. Anand Sweets sells a wedding range it calls Royal Union, with boxes and trays customised for each function through a wedding concierge; its 350 g assorted sweets box costs ₹599. Asha Sweet Center, which lists its address on Sampige Road in Malleswaram, sells bulk boxes of 200 g assorted mithai at ₹299 a unit for orders of 50 or more, and sends free samples first.

Order the sweets last. Asha states a shelf life of 7 days for that bulk box, so time the order to the function, not to the shopping trip.

Minimums, lead times and what to ask

Suppliers price by quantity, so settle the count before you ask for quotes. WOWIN Gifts gives bulk pricing from 25 pieces, says most orders need 7 to 10 days, and adds the event name and date free on bulk orders. Asha's bulk boxes start at 50 units, with free customisation from 100. Kottanz customises packaging on bulk orders.

• Is the full quantity in stock in one design and colour, or will part of it be made fresh?
• What exactly is the material, and will the invoice say so?
• Is each piece packed on its own, and who fills the bags?
• What is the delivered price, with tax, packing and transport to the venue or your home?
• When can you see a sample, and what happens if the final batch looks different?

Keep the approved sample, or a photo of it, and get the quantity, the price and the delivery date in writing.

Chickpet wholesale, or a supplier you can check online

Chickpet still comes up when families search for bulk return gifts. On 15 October 2026 Google suggested searches such as wedding return gifts in Chickpet and thamboolam bags in Chickpet, and in 2008 Citizen Matters described Chickpete and Balepete as a wholesale market that families visit when a wedding means buying in bulk.

We have not listed Chickpet shops, because we could not confirm from a website or a current listing that the ones we found still trade as listed. If you go, take a sample of what you want, your final count and a budget per piece, and buy the full quantity from one shop so the pieces match. To see stock in a store first, Wedtree has shops in Jayanagar 5th Block and HSR Layout, and Kottanz sells from a store in Bangalore as well as online.

When Bangalore families search for return gifts

Google Trends shows searches for return gifts in India up about 15% in the year to October 2026, with Karnataka third among all states for the term. Searches peak in August and again in November, and Google's suggestions for return gifts include Varamahalakshmi as well as weddings. The term also covers birthday return gifts, so read these figures as a season, not a count of weddings.

If your wedding is in November, you are ordering in a peak month for return-gift searches. Ask for samples early and confirm stock before you pay.

Where return gifts fit in the wedding plan

Decide where the gifts go out, at the ceremony, after the meal or at the reception exit, and who stands there with the count. The bags need somewhere dry to wait, and someone has to fill them before the guests arrive.

Panigrahana Weddings plans and designs weddings. We do not sell return gifts and we take no commission from suppliers, so you order from the supplier and pay them directly. If we are planning your wedding, send us the supplier's name, the quantity and the delivery date, and we will add storage and the hand-out to the plan for the day.
