How to choose a wedding silk saree in Bangalore

Kanjivaram, Mysore silk, kasavu or white

Settle what the muhurtham needs before you walk into a shop, because a silk store will keep unfolding sarees for as long as you let it. If you want a Kanjivaram, Kankatala, Nalli, Pothys, RmKV and Vijayalakshmi Silks all put their bridal Kanchipuram ranges online, and Kalyan Silks and Mysore Saree Udyog include Kanjivarams in their bridal and wedding collections. Shortlist borders and pallus at home, then go and see your two or three favourites in person. RmKV also sells a range of natural-dyed wedding silks.

Mysore silk is Karnataka's own. KSIC, the state government's silk company, holds the GI registration for 'Mysore Silk' and weaves it at its factory in Mysore, set up in 1912. It says it uses pure silk with pure gold zari. You can see it at KSIC's showrooms on MG Road, in Jayanagar and in Malleshwaram, and Vijayalakshmi Silks keeps a numbered Mysore crepe line called the Royal Mysore Edit.

For a Kerala wedding, Kalyan Silks, which has two showrooms on Commercial Street, sells Kerala sarees with kasavu borders. For a church wedding, Mysore Saree Udyog on K Kamaraj Road has a white bridal saree section and bridal gowns, and Nalli sells white and off-white pure silk sarees, some of them with pure zari.

Check the silk and the zari before you pay

Pure silk can carry the Silk Mark. The Silk Mark Organisation of India, launched in 2004 as an initiative of the Central Silk Board under the Ministry of Textiles, issues the label only for pure silk products sold by its authorised users. Each label has a hologram and a unique number, and the organisation's website lets you check it.

Some stores on our list show the mark online. Vijayalakshmi Silks puts it on the bridal Kanchivaram pages we read, and Mysore Saree Udyog shows the Silk Mark logo on the saree pages we read and keeps a Silk Mark section. KSIC stamps its own code number and hologram on each of its zari sarees.

Then ask about the zari. RmKV describes pure zari as silk thread coated with pure gold and silver, and tested zari as a blended thread coated with gilded gold. Pure zari costs far more. RmKV's pure-zari Korvai bridal saree was listed at about nine times the price of the tested-zari saree at the bottom of its bridal Kanchipuram range, though the weave differs too. Nalli and Vijayalakshmi Silks label some bridal Kanjivarams half-fine zari, so ask what that means for the saree in front of you.

Questions worth asking at the counter:

• Does this saree carry the Silk Mark, and what is the label number?
• Is the zari pure, half-fine or tested, and will you write that on the bill?
• Is it handloom or powerloom?
• How long is the blouse piece, and does it match the body or the border?
• Will you hold today's price in writing while the family decides?

The Silk Mark Organisation also describes a flame test for a few loose threads: silk burns slowly and leaves a black bead that crumbles between your fingers and smells of burnt hair, while polyester melts into hard beads.

What the stores publish on price

Eight of the ten stores publish prices on the pages we read. The table gives each one's lowest online price on 15 October 2026 for the collection named, in the store's own words, with a link to the page.

Read these as entry points. Vijayalakshmi Silks' figure was a sale price and Pothys showed a 10% flash discount on the day, so check the price again before you go. KSIC's Mysore silk sarees start higher online, at ₹28,326.

Order the blouse with the saree

Plan the blouse on the day you buy the saree. On online orders, Pothys adds four to five business days for a stitched blouse and seven to ten for embroidery, on top of its usual five to seven days for delivery. Mysore Saree Udyog offers stitching on its saree pages and also sells ready-to-wear blouses.

Check the blouse piece as well. On the pages we read, Nalli's pink Kanchipuram came with 0.70 m of blouse fabric and its green Banarasi with 0.90 m, while the RmKV and Pothys wedding silks came with 0.80 m. If you want long sleeves, ask your tailor whether the piece is enough before you settle the design.

What brides are searching for this season

October is the peak. Over the past five years, Google searches in India for 'kanjivaram saree' were highest in October, then November and September.

Pastels and gold are rising. WeddingWire India reported Pinterest searches in India for soft pink themes up 473% and for golden bridal dresses up 90%, comparing the first quarter of 2025 with the same quarter of 2024, and put pastel colour sarees up 83% without naming the platform. Kankatala and Nalli both keep pastel sections online.

Pre-draped sarees are the other shift. Over five years, Karnataka ranks fourth among Indian states for Google searches for 'pre draped saree', and Myntra reported in July 2026 that pre-draped sarees were among the styles gaining traction. In Bangalore, Kalyan Silks and Mysore Saree Udyog sell ready-to-wear sarees; Kalyan's online range is georgette, satin and organza, so ask in the store if you want one in silk.

Matching the groom

Ivory and beige are rising on the groom's side. Over the past year, rising Google searches in India included 'ivory sherwani', up 100%, and 'beige sherwani', up 50%. If the groom is wearing silk at the muhurtham, Pothys sells pure silk Kancheepuram wedding dhotis with angavastrams, Nalli sells silk dhotis, and KSIC sells silk shirts, kurtas and dhotis.
