The entrance sets the language for the whole function. Two carved wooden pillars are wrapped in jasmine netting and hung with long jasmine strings that end in red roses and gold bell drops. Red rose and jasmine swags run across the top, and low mounds of red roses, carnations and gypsophila sit at the base of each pillar, lit from the floor so the white flowers glow against the hotel's warm ceiling.
The welcome display carries the same red, white and gold. A hand-illustrated welcome sign with banana leaves, lotus and parrots stands in front of carved rosewood jaali screens strung with jasmine. A three-tier stand holds green and white chrysanthemums over red roses, brass lamps stand in rings of jasmine on a floor of rose petals, and a terracotta elephant finishes the corner.
The stage is built as a gallery wall rather than a floral backdrop. Raja Ravi Varma prints, hand-painted plates, Mughal-style floral panels and empty gilded frames hang on red damask around a carved mirror, with red velvet drapes on either side and a gilded settee at the centre. Brass lamp-bearer statues, gold urns of red roses, tuberose and gypsophila, and candle lanterns step down to the floor.
Close up, the wall rewards a second look: a brass parrot beside a bunch of gold-painted bananas on a cane side table, burgundy chrysanthemums against the damask, and tuberose in a black clay pot under a Saraswati print. These are the details guests photograph, so each one is placed for a camera at standing height.
The wishing desk turns the guestbook into a set. A carved dressing table and mirror, garlanded with jasmine and roses, holds red post boxes, a 'Leave your wishes' card and airmail postcards. Pink lotus buds fill a brass urli, ghungroo anklet bells rest in a velvet box beside a gold vanity mirror, amaranthus hangs over the drawers, and a harmonium draped in pearls sits beside tender coconuts and a terracotta elephant.
If you are planning a half saree ceremony in a hotel banquet hall, decide early which three moments you want guests to remember: the walk in, the stage, and one interactive corner. Ask the venue's events team for set-up hours, rules on open flames and lamps, and where floor lighting can be plugged in, and get each answer in writing. Then bring the photographs you like into your brief and tell us which details matter most.
What is Shangri-La Bengaluru called now?
The hotel at 56-6B Palace Road that opened as Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru in 2015 now operates as Artezia Bengaluru. Shangri-La's own website states that the group no longer manages the property. If you booked an event under the Shangri-La name, confirm the contract, the contact and the banquet details with the hotel's events team.
Which flowers carry a red and gold half saree theme?
Here the palette rests on red roses, jasmine, carnations, chrysanthemums, tuberose, anthuriums and gypsophila, with gold coming from brass, gilded frames and gold-painted fruit rather than from dyed flowers. Jasmine strings and netting give the entrance its scale, and the white flowers keep the reds from feeling heavy under hotel lighting.
How long does a set like this take to install?
A design of this scale is planned on paper first: a layout of the entrance, the welcome display, the stage and the wishing desk, with the order in which each is built. Fresh jasmine goes up last. Your venue's access hours decide the rest, so ask for them before the design is final.
