Quick Answer · Percentage vs flat fee, Bangalore 2026

A percentage-model wedding planner in Bangalore charges 10–12% of total spend, which is ₹6–7.2 lakh on a ₹60 lakh wedding; a flat-fee planner such as Panigrahana Weddings charges ₹5–25 lakh+, fixed before anything is booked. Below about ₹50 lakh the percentage model is often cheaper in rupees. Above ₹1 crore the flat fee is usually lower. In between, the models cost about the same and the difference is who carries the risk when the guest list grows.

Total budgetPercentage fee at 10–12%Panigrahana flat feeIf spend rises 12%
₹40 lakh₹4–4.8 lakhFixed, inside ₹5–25 lakh+Percentage: ₹4.5–5.4 lakh. Flat: unchanged.
₹60 lakh₹6–7.2 lakhFixed, inside ₹5–25 lakh+Percentage: ₹6.7–8.1 lakh. Flat: unchanged.
₹1 crore₹10–12 lakhFixed, inside ₹5–25 lakh+Percentage: ₹11.2–13.4 lakh. Flat: unchanged.
₹2 crore₹20–24 lakhFixed, inside ₹5–25 lakh+Percentage: ₹22.4–26.9 lakh. Flat: unchanged.

Percentages are the 10–12% band common among Bangalore full-service planners. The 12% rise is the average overrun across the 3 of Panigrahana's last 100 weddings that went over budget. Flat-fee figures are the published band; the exact number depends on functions and scope.

How the percentage model works

The planner quotes a share of your total wedding spend, usually 10–12% in Bangalore, sometimes billed in stages as vendor contracts are signed. It is simple to explain and it scales down for smaller weddings, which is why mid-market planners and event companies favour it. The catch is arithmetic rather than ethics: the person advising you on what to spend earns more when you spend more. A ₹2 lakh menu upgrade is worth ₹20,000–24,000 to them. Most planners are honest about this; the structure still leans one way.

How the flat fee works

Panigrahana Weddings agrees a single figure in writing before the first vendor is booked. The band is ₹5–25 lakh+, and where a wedding sits inside it depends on how many functions we plan, how many guests we produce for, and how much we design and build ourselves. The fee is invoiced by Panigrahana with GST at 18%. Every other rupee goes from the couple straight to the vendor, on the vendor's own invoice, at the rate we negotiated. We take no commission, referral fee or markup, so the fee is the only line we earn from.

The visible effect is that our number does not move when the catering bill does. The less visible effect is that we have no reason to let the catering bill move either, which is part of why only 3 of our last 100 weddings closed above budget.

Where each model wins

Percentage wins on small, single-function weddings where a flat ₹5 lakh floor would be a large share of the total. If your budget is under ₹40 lakh, compare a coordinator at ₹1.5–3 lakh against a percentage planner before you compare either against a studio.

Flat fee wins once the budget passes about ₹1 crore, because 10–12% of ₹1 crore is ₹10–12 lakh and rising, while a studio fee stays inside its band. It also wins for any couple who has been through a wedding that grew. Around 300 of Panigrahana's 500+ weddings were planned for families living abroad, and for them a fixed number in a currency they can convert once is worth a great deal on its own.

Questions couples ask
What percentage do wedding planners take in Bangalore?
Percentage-model planners in Bangalore typically charge 10–12% of total wedding spend: ₹5–6 lakh on a ₹50 lakh wedding, ₹15–18 lakh on a ₹1.5 crore wedding. Panigrahana Weddings does not take a percentage; its fee is a flat ₹5–25 lakh+ agreed before anything is booked.
Is a flat fee or a percentage cheaper for a wedding planner?
At small budgets a percentage can be cheaper in rupees; at ₹60 lakh and above the two models converge, and above ₹1 crore the flat fee is usually lower. The bigger difference is behaviour: a percentage fee rises when the budget rises, a flat fee does not.
Does Panigrahana charge a percentage of the wedding budget?
No. Panigrahana Weddings charges a flat planning and design fee of ₹5–25 lakh+, fixed in writing before the first vendor is booked. Couples pay every vendor directly at the vendor's own rate, and the studio takes no commission or markup.
What does the flat fee include?
Planning, vendor negotiation and management, design direction, and production management for the functions in scope. Decor fabrication is priced separately as its own line, because it is built rather than rented. GST at 18% applies to the fee.
How do I compare two planner quotes fairly?
Put both on the same total budget and the same function count. Convert any percentage to rupees at that total, then again at that total plus 12%, which is the average overrun across the 3 in 100 Panigrahana weddings that went over. Ask both whether they receive anything from vendors. The quote that stays the same in both columns is the one you can plan around.
