Villa buyout or resort ballroom?
Europe splits into two kinds of Indian wedding. A villa or estate — Villa Balbiano on Lake Como, Belmond Caruso at Ravello, Amanzoe above Porto Heli, Canaves Oia on the caldera — is taken exclusively for 40 to 150 guests, with the family in the house and everyone else in hotels nearby. A resort with a real ballroom — the Great Hall at Costa Navarino for 1,188 at rounds, the Great Room at W Barcelona for 700, the Venezia ballroom on JW Marriott's Venice island for 220 — takes a wedding of 300 to 1,000 with every guest under one roof. Every page above states what the venue publishes and what it does not. Where a hotel publishes its capacity chart (the Marriott houses do) we quote it with the date checked; where it does not, we say so and ask the venue for the figure rather than invent one.
What changes in Europe
Visas. Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa for Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, France and Switzerland. Applications open six months before travel and usually take fifteen calendar days once lodged, longer in the summer peak; a wedding of two hundred guests is a visa project run from the invitation date.
Sound. Outdoor amplified music is governed by the commune or municipality, not the hotel. Lake Como towns, the Amalfi coast and the Greek islands commonly close outdoor sound at or before midnight; the sangeet plans for a hall or a licensed marquee. We put the cut-off in writing before the venue contract is signed.
Kitchens. Most European venues cook in-house and do not allow an outside kitchen. The Marriott and Costa Navarino properties run Indian menus with a visiting chef; villas and estates bring in an approved caterer. The menu conversation happens before the deposit, not after.
Production. Our design team builds the mandap and stage in Bangalore and ships or fabricates locally; florals are sourced in Europe. The venue's load-in windows, fire rules and vendor-access terms decide the design more than the budget does.
When to marry in Europe
May to June and September to early October are the wedding months across Italy, Greece and Spain: warm, dry and before or after the July–August tourist peak. Lake Como and the Alps run April to October; Andalusia and Portugal stretch into late October. Indian-diaspora demand for the best villas goes twelve to eighteen months ahead.
