What Makes a Sangeet Night Extraordinary
The sangeet is the one event in an Indian wedding where everyone — grandparents, college friends, aunties who haven't seen each other in years — lets their guard down and genuinely celebrates. When planned well, it is the most joyful, emotionally charged night of the entire celebration. When planned poorly, it is a long, chaotic event that leaves guests tired and the couple disappointed.

The Sangeet Planning Checklist
6–12 Months Before
- Book your venue and date (or designate a space within your wedding venue)
- Decide the sangeet format: dinner-dance, cocktail-style, or pure performance show
- Begin booking headline entertainment if budget allows (live singer, band, DJ)
- Set the decor direction — this should flow from your overall wedding design language
3–6 Months Before
- Confirm family performance groups and begin choreography coordination
- Book your DJ and/or live musicians
- Design the stage set — this is the focal point of the entire evening
- Confirm the catering menu (cocktail-style food works best for a dance-heavy sangeet)
1–4 Weeks Before
- Finalise running order with all performing groups
- Conduct tech rehearsal at venue (sound, lighting, microphones)
- Brief the DJ on all performance music tracks and cues
- Confirm the flow: Welcome → Early performances → Dinner service → Headline entertainment → Open dance floor
Sangeet Decor: Key Elements
The sangeet stage is the hero element — it should be designed as a performance space, not just a floral backdrop. Consider: layered lighting that can shift from intimate (warm amber for slow songs) to high-energy (colour washes for dance numbers); a backdrop that photographs well but doesn't overwhelm the performers; clear sightlines from all guest seating areas to the stage.

- Live Bollywood band: Creates extraordinary atmosphere; expect ₹2–8 lakhs for a professional band
