Sajan & Revathy
Dubai → Tharavadu Mane, Bangalore
An authentic Kerala tharavadu wedding transported entirely to Bangalore — 80,000 flowers, sadya on banana leaves, chenda melam at the entrance, and the most culturally rooted wedding our studio has designed.
Sajan and Revathy had a challenge that many Kerala families in Bangalore face: their elders could not travel to Kerala, but their hearts demanded the full weight of a tharavadu wedding. The brief to our team was to bring Kerala to Bangalore with complete fidelity — not a suggestion of the tradition but the tradition itself, transplanted.
Tharavadu Mane's nalukettu architecture was the foundation — traditional wooden pillars, ancestral courtyard proportions, and the spatial logic of a genuine Kerala family home. Our team laid a pookalam of 80,000 individual flowers at dawn on the day of the ceremony: a 15-foot diameter design in the traditional Onam pattern, completed before the first guests arrived.
The sadya — Kerala's ritual feast, served on fresh banana leaves — was prepared for all 250 guests by a team brought specifically from Thrissur. The chenda melam ensemble of 14 musicians performed the ceremonial entry from the entrance gate. Every ritual was conducted in its correct sequence, with appropriate Malayalam prayers, by a pandit who had performed tharavadu weddings for 30 years.
Revathy's grandmother, who was 87 and had not been able to travel beyond Bangalore in four years, sat at the centre of the pookalam and wept when she saw it. 'I thought I would never see this again,' she said. That moment — a grandmother seeing Kerala in Bangalore — is why this wedding exists in our memory as one of the most important things our studio has ever created.
