Amara Kalyana Mantapa is a purpose-built wedding hall on the Bannerghatta Road side of south Bangalore, a few hundred metres from the IIM-B gate. The building is a classical-columned facade wrapped around one double-height hall, with a first-floor gallery on three sides. That gallery is the feature worth booking for: it gives eight hundred people somewhere to stand and watch a muhurtham without crowding the aisle.
It runs on the standard south Bangalore mantapa logic. Vegetarian plate from ₹550, both in-house and outside caterers allowed, outside decorators allowed, a dozen non-air-conditioned rooms for the immediate family to change and rest in, and parking for around a hundred cars on a road where parking is otherwise a fight.
It is a dry venue with no bar and no permission to bring alcohol in, which suits the traditional Kannada and Tamil brahmin weddings it mostly hosts. Outside DJs are permitted, so a sangeet is possible, but the hall's character is ceremony-first.
- Main hall listed at 500 seated / 800 floating with a balcony gallery on three sides

Designed, not just planned
Wedding planning & decor at Amara Kalyana Mantapa: how we would design it
The hall gives you two levels and most designers only use one. The balcony rail runs round three sides at roughly four metres, which is the exact height at which a continuous floral or foliage run reads from every seat on the floor and frames every wide photograph. Do that before you spend anything on the ceiling. The stage sits under a coffered ceiling recess, so a mandap built inside that recess looks intentional and one built in front of it looks bolted on. The arched windows on the upper level give strong side light until about three in the afternoon, which is a gift for a morning muhurtham and a problem for a projector. Keep the existing gold-and-cream swag curtains or replace them entirely; half-measures read as clutter. Power for an outside DJ plus a lighting plot will almost certainly need a generator, so price it in.
Which function goes where
| Haldi | Morning slot in the main hall. There is no outdoor space, so plan for a hard floor and a cleanup window before the lunch service. |
|---|---|
| Mehendi | The gallery is the right place for this: seat the women upstairs where the light from the arched windows is good, and keep the main floor free. |
| Sangeet | Possible with an outside DJ. The double-height volume is loud and reverberant, so budget for a sound engineer rather than a two-speaker setup. |
| Wedding ceremony | This is what the building is for. Stage at the far end, homa on the floor in front of it, family on the floor, everyone else in the gallery. |
| Reception | Same hall reset with the chairs reoriented. Ask for the turnaround time between the muhurtham lunch and the evening reception in writing. |
Season and weather
November to February is comfortable. The hall's capacity to stay cool through an April or May afternoon depends on whether it is air-conditioned, which the listing does not state — check before booking a hot-season date.
Arrivals, access and logistics
Bannerghatta Road is one of the slowest corridors in south Bangalore between 8am and 11am on weekdays and on temple-festival weekends. A morning muhurtham means guests leaving home very early. The IIM-B gate is the landmark everyone knows. Parking is on site for roughly a hundred cars; anything beyond that spills onto a road that does not forgive it, so a marshal is not optional.
An honest read
Is Amara Kalyana Mantapa the right venue for your wedding?
| Right for you if | South Bangalore families on the Bannerghatta Road, JP Nagar and BTM side with 400–800 guests, a traditional ceremony format and their own caterer. |
|---|---|
| Look elsewhere if | Anyone who wants a bar, a lawn, an outdoor mandap, or air-conditioned comfort for a summer afternoon crowd. |
| Planner tip | Book the gallery as part of the design, not as spillover. Most families treat the upper level as overflow and leave it undressed, which is why photographs from these halls look bottom-heavy. Dress the rail and the hall reads twice as considered for a fraction of a ceiling budget. |

Asked and answered
Amara Kalyana Mantapa wedding questions
How many guests does Amara Kalyana Mantapa hold?
The listing records 500 seated and 800 floating in the main hall, checked 11 September 2026. Directory listings quote a higher range of 600 seated with dining for 300 to 500 in a separate turn. For planning, treat 500 seated as the working number and use the gallery for the standing overflow.
Where is Amara Kalyana Mantapa?
Krishnaraju Layout, Amalodbhavi Nagar, Panduranga Nagar, on Bannerghatta Road opposite the IIM Bangalore gate, PIN 560076. Some listings give the address as No. 152/10, Mariswamappa Layout, Doresani Palya, Bannerghatta Road — the same location described from a different side.
Can I bring my own caterer?
Yes. The listing records in-house and outside catering as both allowed. For a traditional south Indian wedding where the family has a preferred banana-leaf caterer, that permission is often the deciding factor. Confirm kitchen access, gas points and the washing area before you commit.
Is alcohol allowed at Amara Kalyana Mantapa?
No. The listing records no in-house alcohol and outside alcohol not permitted. It is a dry venue, which is the norm for kalyana mantapas in this belt. If your reception plan includes a bar, this is not the building.
Can I bring my own decorator and DJ?
Yes to both. Outside decorators are permitted and outside DJs are permitted, with no in-house DJ recorded. That gives a designer real freedom here, subject to power and rigging limits that you should confirm on a site visit.
What does Amara Kalyana Mantapa cost?
The public listing reference is ₹550 per plate vegetarian, taxes extra, checked 11 September 2026. Other directories quote vegetarian rates from ₹495 to ₹550. No hall hire is published. Because outside caterers are allowed, your food cost depends on the caterer, not the venue, so ask for the hall hire as a separate number.
Are there rooms at Amara Kalyana Mantapa?
Directory listings record 12 non-air-conditioned rooms. Treat these as family changing and rest rooms for the wedding party rather than guest accommodation. Outstation guests will need hotels on Bannerghatta Road or in JP Nagar.
What is parking like?
Directory listings record roughly 100 cars and 150 two-wheelers. On Bannerghatta Road that is genuinely useful, because on-street parking near the IIM-B stretch is limited and enforced. For a 700-guest wedding you still want a marshal and a nearby overflow arrangement.
Is there an outdoor space for haldi or mehendi?
No. The listing records indoor space only. Morning functions happen in the same hall in a separate slot, which means your decor has to be built and struck twice, or designed once so it works for both.
When did Amara Kalyana Mantapa open?
The WedMeGood listing records the venue as started in 2010 and it has been listed there for about six years and seven months as of September 2026. One directory gives 2016 as the start year. Neither has been confirmed by the venue.
Is the hall air-conditioned?
The listing does not say. The photographs show a double-height volume with arched windows rather than visible ducting. Confirm this directly if your date falls in April or May, when an unairconditioned hall of this size gets uncomfortable by early afternoon.
What would Panigrahana design differently here?
We would dress the balcony rail first. It runs round three sides at about four metres, which is the height at which a continuous floral or foliage run frames every wide photograph and reads from every seat. Then build the mandap inside the stage's existing ceiling recess rather than in front of it, so it looks like part of the building rather than an object placed in it.
