Choose By What Actually Matters
Couples don't choose venues by star rating — they choose by one deciding constraint. These are the questions we hear most, answered with named venues and real numbers from our 420-venue database.
The built-backup venues: Moongate's Opa Hall seats 800 air-conditioned beside its lawns, ITC Gardenia's Grand Ballroom takes 1,800, Marriott Whitefield holds 40,000 sq ft of indoor space, and Shangri-La's 8-metre-ceiling ballroom lets decor go up when the weather sends everyone in. Lawn-only estates answer rain with rented structures at your cost — ask which kind of backup you're buying.
Moongate valet-parks 600+ cars with five spaces spreading the crowd; Utsavaa absorbs arrivals into a four-acre parking area; The Tamarind Tree holds 200 cars on the southern corridor; and Hilton Embassy GolfLinks reaches Koramangala, Indiranagar and the CBD without crossing the city's worst roads. For a 300–500 guest wedding, arrival design matters more than lawn size.
The Tamarind Tree — all five spaces are gardens, with a 400-year-old canopy doing the shading; MG Magnus (Miraya Greens), whose courtyards carry marigold haldis and bougainvillea mehendis; and Nature Knots, where the haldi sits in a lemon-and-cane garden set. Hotels serve daytime functions; garden estates are built for them.
Amita Rasa's stone mandap and Kalyani near Nandi Hills; the water mandap under the fairy-lit banyan at Nature Knots; The Tamarind Tree's heritage tree; and Golfshire's fairways at golden hour. Every photograph on our venue guides is from a real wedding at that property — judge the backdrops from those, not from brochures.
Four Seasons is built for exactly this — 20 to 500 guests with the infinity-terrace over the skyline; The Oberoi folds small weddings into MG Road gardens; and a weekday date at a garden estate gives 120 guests an entire property. Under 150, the risk isn't finding a venue — it's paying for scale you won't use.
The estates win: Moongate and Utsavaa have the approach roads and open ground a horse-and-band baraat needs. City hotels host baraats with real constraints worth knowing upfront — Taj West End, for instance, caps baraat sound at around fifteen minutes and requires sound licences. Neither answer is wrong; they're different weddings.
By room count: Shangri-La 397, Marriott Whitefield 392, Taj Yeshwantpur 327, JW Golfshire 301, ITC Gardenia 291. Among estates, Moongate's 47 suites house the core family where the haldi happens. Amita Rasa runs the other model — 7 rooms on site, guests at nearby partner hotels, which we pre-block.
Two honest routes: hotel kitchens with wedding pedigree — ITC and Taj banqueting are chosen for the catering alone — or an estate that allows your own caterer, which is why The Tamarind Tree keeps winning weddings where the community's cook is non-negotiable. The trap is the middle: in-house-only catering without a tasting you trust.
They price differently, and that decides more than the name. Hotels charge a minimum guarantee — a plate-count floor per space, with the venue riding free above it and shortfalls negotiable. Estates charge a day rental and let you bring your caterer. Big list + rooms + certainty says hotel; garden character + your own vendors + exclusivity says estate.
Honestly: almost none — venues provide space, and "in-house decor" usually means a contracted vendor with a catalogue. If original design matters, bring the design studio and choose a venue that permits it. Panigrahana's decor is architect-led and built in-house for the venue's actual dimensions — it's why couples pick their venue and their designer as two separate decisions.
Around 300 of our 500+ weddings were planned with couples living abroad: live video walkthroughs of shortlisted venues, budgets in a shared couple portal in INR with USD/GBP/AED equivalents, milestone payments on invoice, and one scheduled India trip for the tasting and decor mockup. Start with any venue guide's cost dossier — it's built to be forwarded to family across time zones.
Inside the CBD, by room count: Shangri-La on Palace Road (397), ITC Gardenia on Residency Road (291), The Ritz-Carlton next door (278), The Oberoi on MG Road (155) and Taj West End on Race Course Road (117). City guests drive in for the evening; outstation and overseas guests sleep upstairs and walk down for the muhurtham. When the outstation share passes what the hotel holds — Taj West End fills at 117 — we pre-block a second hotel within a short drive and run shuttles, which is cheaper than moving the whole wedding to a bigger property. See our 300-guest and 500-guest venue shortlists for the room maths at each headcount.
All of them. We plan and design the wedding, so there is no second planner to hire. The venue decides what we manage: at ITC, Taj and Leela the catering stays in-house and we run design, production, rooms and guest logistics. The Tamarind Tree: Price on request; ask for a current quotation for your dates. One flat planning fee quoted for the agreed scope, no vendor commissions, and one six-person design team on the wedding from the first drawing to the last teardown.
Permission is venue-by-venue and we check it before promising anything: drone coverage adds ₹10,000–25,000 a day where the venue and local rules allow it, and Moongate near Yelahanka has hosted drone light shows on its lawns. Garden estates with open sky — The Tamarind Tree, Amita Rasa at the Nandi Hills foothills, Golfshire’s fairways — are where cinematic aerials earn their fee; inside a hotel ballroom the money is better spent on a second camera and a lighting plan. For venues along the airport corridor we confirm the local rules first, then write the answer into the contract.
Most garden estates will host a shoot for a booked wedding on a weekday — Amita Rasa’s stone mandap and Kalyani, The Tamarind Tree’s 400-year-old canopy and Nature Knots’ banyan water mandap are the backdrops couples ask for. Hotels usually allow it by arrangement, and we ask at contract stage so the answer is written down. If you want the city instead, our Bangalore pre-wedding shoot locations guide covers 25 of them with permits and timing.
Your Questions, Answered
Compare central Bengaluru hotels with Nandi Hills properties on travel, guest stays and the space your design needs. A venue buyout and a hotel room block are different commitments.
Amitarasa describes exclusive use for one event at a time and distinguishes its seven on-site rooms from accommodation at neighbouring resorts.
Taj lists the Prince of Wales Lawn for 300 in circular seating or 1,200 at a reception. Its Ballroom lists 180 in circular seating or 500 at a reception. These are different event layouts.
The hotel’s wedding page offers planning support, flower arrangements, customised catering and audiovisual equipment.
The hotel’s meetings FAQ says clients may choose their own event planners, working with its internal event team.
Marriott describes indoor and outdoor event spaces, separate pre-function areas and a travelator between the hotel and convention area.
If all 150 guests stay and every room holds two of them, the starting calculation is 75 rooms per night. It is only an example. Singles, families, children, room occupancy rules and guests staying elsewhere change the actual rooming list. Record room categories, nights, release dates and additional-room availability before committing.
Read the actual inclusions. Separate accommodation, food and venue hire from design, florals, furniture, lighting, sound, labour, logistics and the planner’s scope. Ask who owns each task when both the hotel and an independent studio provide planning support.
Ask the specific property to approve the decorator and other production suppliers in writing. Check any preferred-vendor requirement, outside-vendor charge, setup access, power, rigging, storage, removal deadline and damage deposit. Permission for a planner does not automatically approve every vendor or installation.
The backup should have a named space, a workable seating layout, the same required event hours and a decision deadline. Include the stage or mandap, dining, service access and guest movement in the plan. Confirm the cost of holding the space and changing the setup; do not assume either is free.
List the room nights, each catered function, venue hire or minimum spend, decor changes, production, labour, transfers, guest hospitality, vendor stays and meals, planner scope and applicable invoice taxes. Day two can require new room nights, venue access, staffing and equipment hire as well as food. Mark allowances and consumption-based charges separately.
Agree a decision calendar, a family contact and a written approval process. Use the couple portal to review the agreed planning information with your team. Book a physical visit around the venue walkthrough, tasting and design decisions that need it; do not assume every couple needs the same length of trip.
