Under the Rain Trees of Taj West End

If there is one image that defines the Taj West End as a wedding venue, it is this: a couple standing beneath a century-old rain tree, its vast canopy filtering golden evening light, wedding guests in their finest silks arranged on a manicured lawn that has hosted celebrations since 1887. Aryan Kapoor and Kavitha Iyer chose this venue because they had both attended a wedding here as children — and had each, independently, decided then that this was where they would one day get married.

"We told Panigrahana exactly what we wanted," says Kavitha. "The rain trees. The grass. The light. Everything else was decoration."

About Taj West End

Taj West End Bengaluru is a 117-year-old colonial retreat on 20 acres of botanical garden in central Bangalore. Century-old rain trees, impeccable Taj hospitality, and multiple outdoor settings make it Bangalore's most iconic garden wedding venue. It is the venue that every Bangalorean bride has dreamed of — and for good reason.

The Wedding

Mehendi afternoon: In the garden near the Taj's heritage conservatory. Panigrahana constructed a vintage floral canopy — brass rings strung with white roses and green trailing foliage. A live Carnatic vocalist played softly through the afternoon. 80 guests. Perfect proportion.

Sangeet evening: On the main lawn under the rain trees. 12 paper lanterns suspended from tree branches at different heights. Low seating for 150 guests, with a small stage and a four-piece jazz band. The most intimate sangeet Panigrahana has ever designed.

Wedding ceremony: The mandap positioned between two of the largest rain trees — their canopies meeting 15 metres above, creating a natural cathedral. Panigrahana designed a mandap that honoured both the trees and the traditions: copper poles, white flowers, trailing jasmine. The ceremony at 6pm, the light at its most golden. 300 guests. Silence.

Reception: Indoor reception in the Taj's beautifully appointed ballroom — bespoke centrepieces, crystal and white linen, Taj's legendary catering.
