Alila Diwa's warm terracotta and rice-paddy setting created an unexpectedly intimate backdrop — jasmine and lotus florals, a traditional Mangalorean ceremony, and a dinner that ran well past midnight.

Alila Diwa Goa looks different from every other Goa wedding venue. While the northern belt favours beachfront grandeur, Alila Diwa turns inland — toward rice paddies, terracotta walls, and an organic aesthetic that feels more Konkan village than international resort. For Akash and Preethi, who wanted something distinctly rooted after years of attending flashy wedding productions, it was an immediate choice.

The Diwa Club lawn, framed by coconut palms and the paddy fields behind, was the ceremony space. Our floral design used jasmine and water lotus almost exclusively — the scent alone, on a warm March morning, created an atmosphere that the 90 guests later described as the most sensory wedding ceremony they had attended. No synthetic materials, no imported flowers.

The ceremony itself followed the Mangalorean Catholic-Hindu hybrid tradition that Akash and Preethi observe — a Catholic blessing followed by a Tulu ritual, both conducted by officiants who had worked together before and moved between the two without any tonal disruption. The design respected and celebrated both traditions equally.

Dinner ran until nearly 1am, which surprised everyone — 90 guests in an outdoor garden space with no stage, no DJ, no formal program after dinner, and no one wanted to leave. 'We did not need any of that,' Preethi told us. 'The garden, the food, the people — that was everything.' The simplicity of Alila Diwa made the point.
