Grandeur without the circus — a mandap installation of 50,000 white roses inside the Grand Ballroom, chandelier lighting, and a sound design that transformed the room entirely.

Divakar and Sunaina articulated their brief in a single phrase: 'grandeur without the circus.' They had attended too many weddings where scale had become the point, where the production had overwhelmed the people. ITC Grand Goa's serene South Goa location, set back from the tourist belt, and its quiet, institutional elegance made it the right canvas for a different kind of ambition.

The Grand Ballroom installation was the centrepiece. Our team constructed a mandap framework of 50,000 fresh white roses — sourced from farms in Ooty and delivered fresh on the morning of the event — using a structural system that allowed the roses to appear free-floating against the ballroom's gilded walls. The chandelier system was retrofitted with warm amber gels that turned the ballroom light from corporate white to drawing-room gold.

The sound design, commissioned independently of the music, was calibrated to the specific acoustics of the ITC ballroom — the reverb characteristics, the low-end response, the live band positioning. Every decibel level was mapped to the room's dimensions. Guests at the rear tables heard the ceremony as clearly as those at the front, without any of the typical compression that plagues large hotel ballrooms.

At the ceremony entrance, as Sunaina's parents walked her through the white rose corridor, her father stopped for a moment, looked around the transformed room, and said nothing. He simply nodded. Divakar later told us that nod — from a man who had attended more weddings than he could count — was the review he would remember.
