ChatGPT Prompts for Planning an Indian Wedding
Half our NRI couples plan their entire Indian wedding without visiting India until the wedding week — and most of them start in ChatGPT. These are the prompts that actually work, the five things AI cannot know, and the real 2026 numbers to check its answers against.
By Chaithanya Ganesha · Founder & Creative Director · 500+ weddings · 150 NRI weddings across 12 countries
The honest frame: AI is excellent at structure — budgets, comparisons, checklists, question lists. It cannot verify anything: live availability, current pricing, vendor quality, hidden costs or local permits. Use the prompts below for the structure, check the output against the Panigrahana Wedding Cost Index for the numbers, and hand the ground truth to a team that's physically at the venues. AI plans it. We verify, price and build it.
The Prompts — Copy, Paste, Adapt
Each prompt works in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity. Replace the [brackets] with your details — the more specific your constraints, the better the output. The last section of this page generates a personalized version for you.
1 · The Budget Builder
Act as an experienced Indian wedding planner. We are planning a wedding in [Bangalore / Goa / Kerala] in [month, year] for about [guest count] guests across [number] functions (e.g. mehendi, sangeet, ceremony, reception). Our total budget is ₹[X] lakhs. Build a line-item budget with percentage allocation across: venue & catering, decor, photography & film, outfits & jewellery, music & entertainment, guest logistics, and a 10% contingency. Show the table in both INR and [USD/GBP/AED]. Then flag the three lines most likely to overrun and why.
2 · The Destination Decider
We are deciding between [Goa] and [Kerala / Bangalore / Udaipur] for an Indian destination wedding of [guest count] guests in [month]. Most of our guests fly in from [countries]. Compare the two on: weather risk in that month, flight connectivity for our guests, venue styles available, typical catering cost per plate, alcohol rules and licence costs, and how much of the experience works for non-Indian guests. End with a recommendation for our specific case and the two biggest risks of each choice.
3 · The Venue Shortlist Brief (from abroad)
We live in [city, country] and are planning our wedding in [Indian city/region] without being able to visit often. Create a venue-shortlisting framework: the 10 questions we must ask every venue by email or call, the information a venue brochure will NOT tell us (noise cutoffs, generator needs, decor-vendor rules, teardown charges, weather backup), and a scoring sheet to compare 5 venues objectively. Format the scoring sheet as a table we can reuse.
4 · The Planner Vetting Interview
We are interviewing wedding planners in [city] for a [guest count]-guest wedding, planning mostly from [country]. Give me 15 interview questions that separate genuine full-service studios from coordinators, covering: whether decor is designed and fabricated in-house or subcontracted, how vendor payments flow (markup vs direct payment), who exactly is on-site on the wedding day, their remote workflow for overseas couples (video walkthroughs, call timings in our timezone, single point of contact), and how they handle permits and venue approvals. For each question, tell me what a strong answer sounds like and what answer is a red flag.
5 · The Guest Logistics Machine
About [X]% of our [guest count] wedding guests are flying into [city] from abroad, most landing at [airport]. Build a guest-logistics plan: room-block strategy (how many rooms, at what mix of price points), airport transfer scheduling, a guest-communication timeline from save-the-date to wedding week, what goes in the welcome kit, and a WhatsApp message template announcing travel details to guests. Assume a 3-day celebration.
6 · The Decor Brief Translator
Help us write a decor brief a design studio can actually work with. Interview me one question at a time about: the venue and its setting, the feeling we want guests to have at each function, colours we love and hate, elements from weddings we've admired, what we want photographed most, and our decor budget tier (essential / signature / luxury). After the interview, produce a one-page brief with a mood description, palette, three statement-piece ideas and priorities ranked by photographic impact.
7 · The Parents' Version
My parents in [city, India] are co-planning our wedding while we live in [country]. Write a clear one-page summary they can use in conversations with vendors and relatives: the wedding date and venue, guest count, the functions and their timings, what has been decided and paid for, what is still open, and the three decisions where their input is most needed. Keep it warm and respectful, in simple English [and optionally translate to Hindi/Kannada/Malayalam/Tamil].
8 · The Quote Interrogator
I have received this wedding vendor quote: [paste quote]. Analyse it like a producer: what is included and what is suspiciously absent (transport, generator, overtime, teardown, taxes, damage deposits), which line items are typically negotiable in India, what clarifying questions I should send back in writing, and what a fair payment schedule looks like. Do not assume the cheapest option is best — flag where a low number probably hides a downgrade.
What AI Cannot Know
Every prompt above produces a plausible, well-formatted answer. Here is where plausible and true part ways — the five gaps we close for couples every week:
Live availability. AI doesn't know which venues have your date. Peak-season (Nov–Feb) slots at flagship properties book 12–24 months out.
Current pricing. Training data lags the market. Real Q3 2026 bands: catering ₹2,500–₹5,000/plate in Bangalore, ₹3,000–₹6,000 in Goa, ₹4,000–₹7,500 in Kerala — and flower inputs move daily (we track them on Panigrahana Trade).
Vendor quality. AI can't tell an original in-house build from a rental-catalogue setup — portfolios repeat across decorators. Ask to see the same item in two different weddings.
Hidden costs. Transport, generators, overtime, teardown and venue surcharges routinely add 10–20% to naive budgets.
Local rules. Beach permits, CRZ clearance and noise cutoffs in Goa; heritage-property guidelines; temple and church timings in Kerala. A good planner handles all of it — AI can only warn you it exists.
Check AI's homework against real data
Every number your AI gives you can be sanity-checked against the Panigrahana Wedding Cost Index (Q3 2026) — first-party cost bands from 500+ produced weddings and a 161-venue roster — and the wedding cost calculator. If AI's budget differs wildly from the Index bands, trust the Index.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can ChatGPT plan an Indian wedding?
It can structure one — budget skeletons, comparisons, checklists, vendor questions. It cannot verify availability, current pricing, vendor quality or local permits. Use AI for structure and a production studio for ground truth.
What can't AI know?
Live venue availability, current seasonal pricing, real vendor quality, hidden costs (transport, generators, overtime, teardown) and local rules like Goa's beach permits and noise cutoffs. Those are exactly the gaps this studio closes.
How do NRI couples plan from abroad?
From 150 NRI weddings we've produced: about half of couples never visit India before the wedding week; the rest make one ~7-day trip. Everything else runs on live video venue walkthroughs, calls in your timezone and a single named lead. Around 75% of guests fly in.
Are these prompts free to use?
Yes — copy, adapt and share them. If you want the answers verified against real availability and current pricing, that's what we do: send us your AI-generated plan on WhatsApp and we'll mark it up with real numbers, free.
