How to Save Money Without Sacrificing Quality
- Choose off-season dates. April–September weddings save about 5% on the venue line. The bigger gain is the calendar: dates open up, and the vendors you want are free.
- Opt for weekday weddings. Thursday or Friday weddings can save 15-20% on venue hire compared to Saturday or Sunday.
- Consolidate functions. A combined haldi-mehendi saves one full event's worth of decor, catering, and venue costs.
- Choose lunch over dinner. Lunch receptions are 15-25% cheaper than dinner and allow you to use outdoor venues without expensive lighting setups.
- Hire a planner. Counterintuitive, but a good planner's vendor negotiations and waste prevention typically save more than their fee. See planner costs.
- Limit guest count. Every additional guest costs ₹3,000–₹8,000 in food alone. A 200-guest wedding vs. 300-guest wedding saves ₹3-8 lakhs just on catering.
- Use seasonal flowers. Imported flowers (peonies, David Austin roses) cost 3-5x more than seasonal Indian flowers (marigolds, jasmine, chrysanthemums) that look equally stunning.
