Open-air dining terrace at Ambrosia under a tiled canopy roof with wooden tables and benches, a flowerbed along the edge and lawn beyond
WedMeGood listing gallery (public listing reference) · checked 2026-09-11

Ambrosia is a garden restaurant on Dr Vishnuvardhan Road that also takes small functions. The seating runs under a canopy of full-grown trees with a tiled roof over part of the floor and planted beds between the tables, so the space already looks like somewhere before anyone hangs a thing in it. For a mehendi or an engagement lunch of 120 to 175 people, that is most of the work done.

It is not a wedding venue in the kalyana-mantapa sense and should not be sold as one. There is no mandap, no stage, no banquet hall and no lawn large enough for a muhurtham crowd. What there is: a shaded dining floor for 175, an in-house bar, and permission to bring your own decorator and your own DJ, which is an unusual combination at this price.

The venue serves vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and holds a liquor licence, so the common assumption that a garden restaurant in RR Nagar must be a pure-veg family place does not hold here. Catering, however, is in-house only. If your family has a non-negotiable caterer, this venue will not work.

  • Open-air garden dining under mature tree cover, listed at 175 seated / 250 floating
  • In-house bar; outside alcohol not permitted
  • Outside decorators and outside DJs both allowed
  • Catering is in-house only
  • Operating since 2012 on Dr Vishnuvardhan Road, Rajarajeshwari Nagar
  • Veg plate listed from ₹500, non-veg from ₹700

Designed, not just planned

Wedding planning & decor at Ambrosia Bangalore: how we would design it

The trees are the design. Six or seven mature canopies over a hard floor give you a ceiling you did not have to build, and the correct instinct is to light up into them rather than hang anything below them. Uplights at the trunk bases and a warm string run through the branches at about four metres will do more for this space than any amount of fabric. Leave the planted beds alone; they read as landscape in photographs and cost nothing. The one weakness is the tiled-roof section, which is low and dark in the afternoon — that is where a small ceiling installation earns its keep, because it is the only part of the floor a guest will look up at. Power comes off the restaurant's own supply, so a DJ rig plus a lighting plot needs a load check, and a generator if you are running a band. There is no rain cover over the open section, which matters between June and October.

Which function goes where

HaldiGood. Morning light filters through the tree canopy and the floor is hard-paved, so turmeric cleanup is a hose-down rather than a lawn repair.
MehendiThe strongest fit. Shade, fixed seating, fans overhead and a kitchen already running — everything a four-hour mehendi needs.
SangeetWorkable for up to about 150 with an outside DJ, which the venue permits. The open roof means sound carries to neighbours, so ask about the cut-off time before you plan a late finish.
Wedding ceremonyOnly for an intimate ceremony of 60–100. There is no dedicated ceremony space, so a mandap would be built on the dining floor with the tables cleared.
ReceptionSuits a cocktail-format reception of 200–250 floating better than a seated one. The in-house bar is on site, which removes the biggest headache of a small reception.

Season and weather

November to February is the window. The tree cover keeps it usable through March, but the open floor has no rain plan, so June to October is a real risk for anything that cannot move indoors at fifteen minutes' notice.

Arrivals, access and logistics

Dr Vishnuvardhan Road feeds off the Mysore Road corridor and the NICE Road junction, so guests from south and west Bangalore arrive easily and guests from the north-east should be warned. Parking is on the compound and the road shoulder. Vendor access is through the restaurant's service entrance, so heavy decor build-outs need to happen before service hours.

An honest read

Is Ambrosia Bangalore the right venue for your wedding?

Right for you ifCouples planning a mehendi, haldi, engagement or intimate reception for 100–250 on the RR Nagar, Kengeri or Mysore Road side of the city, who want a green setting without renting a farmhouse.
Look elsewhere ifAnyone planning a 300-plus wedding, anyone who needs their own caterer, and anyone who needs guest rooms or a monsoon-proof covered space.
Planner tipBook the whole restaurant, not a section. Ambrosia is a functioning restaurant, and a half-booking means your mehendi shares the tree canopy with walk-in diners. The buyout premium is small relative to how much it improves the day.

Asked and answered

Ambrosia Bangalore wedding questions

How many guests can Ambrosia hold?

The listed capacity is 175 seated and 250 floating, checked 11 September 2026. That makes it an intimate-function venue: mehendi, haldi, engagement, a small reception. A 300-guest wedding does not fit here, and no amount of clever layout changes that.

Where is Ambrosia in Bangalore?

Noojibail Nursery Compound, 15/3A, Dr Vishnuvardhan Road, Srinivaspura, Ganakal Village, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru 560060. It sits on the RR Nagar side of the city, easy from Mysore Road and the NICE Road junction, and a long drive from anywhere north or east.

Is Ambrosia a pure-vegetarian venue?

No. It serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and holds a liquor licence with an in-house bar. This is worth knowing because several directory listings describe it as a vegetarian restaurant, which is out of date.

Can I bring my own caterer to Ambrosia?

No. The listing records in-house catering only. Your plate rate starts at ₹500 vegetarian and ₹700 non-vegetarian, taxes extra. Ask for a tasting before you commit, and settle the menu against a guaranteed guest count rather than a floating one.

Can I bring my own decorator and DJ?

Yes to both. The listing records outside decorators permitted and outside DJs permitted, alongside an in-house DJ option. That combination is unusual at this price band and is the main reason a designed function works here at all.

Is alcohol allowed at Ambrosia?

In-house alcohol is available and outside alcohol is not permitted. The venue runs its own bar. If you want a specific bottle for a toast, raise it at the booking stage; the venue may source to order, but you will not be carrying it in.

Does Ambrosia have a rain backup?

Only partly. There is a tiled-roof section over part of the floor, but the main garden seating is open. From June to October, a function here needs either a smaller headcount that fits under the covered section or a marquee agreed in advance. Bangalore's evening showers arrive faster than a tent can be put up.

Does Ambrosia have rooms?

Two rooms are recorded on directory listings, one air-conditioned and one not. Treat them as changing rooms rather than guest accommodation. Anyone staying overnight needs a hotel on Mysore Road or in RR Nagar.

What does a mehendi at Ambrosia actually cost?

The venue publishes no hire charge, so your cost is driven by the plate rate and your guest count. At ₹500 a head vegetarian for 150 guests you are at ₹75,000 before taxes on food alone, plus decor, and plus the bar if you open one. Ask for the buyout premium separately — it is the number most couples forget.

Is Ambrosia suitable for a wedding ceremony?

For an intimate one of sixty to a hundred, yes: a mandap built on the cleared dining floor under the trees works. For a full muhurtham with four hundred relatives, no. There is no dedicated ceremony space and no hall to fall back on.

When did Ambrosia open?

The listing records the venue as started in 2012, and it has been listed on WedMeGood for about six years and eight months as of September 2026. Its listing rating is 4.0 from a single review, which is too small a sample to draw a conclusion from.

What would Panigrahana do differently here?

Light up into the trees instead of hanging things under them. The mature canopy is the whole asset, and most decorators cover it with fabric. We would put uplights at the trunk bases, run warm string at branch height, leave the planted beds untouched, and spend the ceiling budget only on the low tiled section where guests actually look up.
