About Mandara Weddings & Events
Mandara is a 2.5-acre garden venue on the south-western edge of Bangalore, at Badamanavarthekaval, Devagere, near Kengeri, opened in 2024. It hosts one wedding at a time, with two lawns, a three-tiered mantapa, a dining hall for 150 and a two-level guest house, so a mehendi and a muhurtham can run on the same day without anyone else's event beside them.
The ceremony structure is a tiered, tiled-roof mantapa on a raised stone platform, standing open on the first lawn. It is the thing the gallery keeps returning to, and a better starting point than a temporary mandap frame, because it gives the ritual permanent architecture with a real roof over it. Around it the property runs to a white portico house, a paved forecourt, planted edges and a large Buddha-head sculpture lit on the lawn at night.
Catering is outside-only, and caterers cook in a 2,000 sq ft kitchen, which puts the biggest cost line under your control. The venue sells decor packages from ₹1 lakh plus GST per event, so whether an outside studio builds here is a question to settle in writing. Designed, not just planned
How we would design a wedding at Mandara Weddings & Events
The three-tiered mantapa is the anchor, and the temptation is to wrap it until it disappears. Do the opposite: leave the twin-pitched roof legible, work the floral into the columns and the platform edge, and hang from inside the roof rather than across it, so the silhouette is still there in a wide shot. Its raised platform also means the ritual sits above the guests, which is unusually good for photography and means the seating plan does not need risers or a raked layout. The second design fact is the Buddha-head sculpture on the lawn. It is large, lit, and permanent, and it belongs to a different visual world from a South Indian muhurtham. Decide early whether it is in the scheme or out of the sightlines, because a half-screened sculpture behind a mandap is worse than either option. Third, the lawns are open and the planting sits at the boundary, so at night the perimeter goes black and the space loses its edges. Light the boundary planting before adding anything decorative in the middle; on an open lawn that single move does more for the photographs than any amount of centrepiece work. Power is the last item: three rooms and a modest rental suggest a small sanctioned load, so a generator is likely and should be priced in.
