The Serai Kabini or Evolve Back Kabini: which resort suits a small wedding on the river?
Evolve Back Kabini is the easier wedding: 32 rooms, a lawn listed at 180 seated, and outside caterers, decorators and alcohol all permitted on its listing. The Serai Kabini has 20 riverside residences and one published event room, a hall for 50, so it works only as a very small buyout. Both are 220 to 235 km from Bengaluru.
Panigrahana Weddings is the planning and design studio, not either resort. Neither sells a wedding package on its own website; both quote a wedding as a buyout on request. The figures here come from the resorts' own pages and Evolve Back's WedMeGood listing, read on 26 September 2026.

Read the two columns as two different conversations. Evolve Back's listing answers the wedding questions, even if its own site does not market weddings. The Serai publishes nothing about weddings at Kabini, so every policy line is a question for the resort.
Count the beds before you count the lawn
At a forest-edge resort 220 km from the city, the guest list is the number of people who can sleep there. At two to a room, The Serai's 20 residences house about 40 people and Evolve Back's 32 rooms about 64. Evolve Back's lawn seats 180, but most of those guests would be driving back to somewhere else after dark, on forest roads.
What that means in practice
- Up to about 40 guests, all staying: either resort, taken exclusively.
- About 40 to 65 guests, all staying: Evolve Back is the one that fits.
- A larger list: split the wedding. Hold the ceremony and one dinner here, and the reception in Bangalore or Mysore.
Red Earth Kabini is the third resort worth a call. It is the only one of the three with a weddings page, offering Hindu, Arya Samaj, secular and tribal ceremonies. Its FAQ gives 21 cottages, 220 km from Bangalore and 56 km from Mysore, and says no outside alcohol is allowed.
Sound, fireworks and the forest next door
The national rule stops outdoor loudspeakers at 10 pm. Both resorts sit beside national parks, so expect their own limits on sound and light to be stricter than that, and plan the evening to peak early. Do not plan fireworks, sky lanterns or a drone unless the resort confirms them in writing for your dates.
The Serai names October to March as its peak season, when the weather is comfortable. That is also when rooms are hardest to take exclusively, so ask about dates before you fix the muhurtham.
The two-day shape that suits both
- Day one: guests drive in and arrive before dark. A welcome dinner by the water, finished early.
- Day two: the ceremony in the morning light, lunch, then a quiet afternoon or a safari if the resort can arrange one.
- Evening: a dinner that winds down rather than ramps up, inside the resort's sound rules.
- Day three: a slow breakfast, and people leave through the morning instead of in one convoy.
Our design brief for either resort is small and portable: a mandap and a dinner setting that travel 220 km in a few vehicles, build in the hours the resort allows, and look right with very little light. We design and build them in our own studio, so they are made for this site and not pulled from a rental catalogue.
What to ask each resort in writing
- Is a full buyout possible on our dates, and what does it include: rooms, meals, spaces, activities?
- Which spaces can we use for the ceremony and the dinner, and for how many seated?
- Can an outside caterer cook on site for a wedding meal, and what kitchen, water and power are provided?
- Is amplified sound allowed, where, and until what time each night?
- What lighting is allowed near the water and the forest edge?
- Bar arrangements, and whether we may bring our own alcohol.
- How many days can a design team access the site before the wedding, and where does the crew sleep?
- Which rooms are step-free, and how far is the nearest hospital at night?
Questions couples ask
Can you have a wedding at The Serai Kabini?
Only as a small buyout, and on the resort's terms. The Serai sells 20 riverside residences and publishes one event room, an 800 sq ft conference hall for 50 theatre-style. Its website does not offer weddings at Kabini, so ask the resort directly for a buyout quote and its rules on sound, decor and outside caterers.
Does Evolve Back Kabini allow outside caterers and decorators?
Its WedMeGood listing says both in-house and outside catering are allowed, outside decorators are permitted, and outside alcohol and outside DJs are permitted. Evolve Back's own site does not publish wedding terms, so confirm each line in writing for your dates.
How many guests can a Kabini resort wedding have?
As many as can sleep there. Evolve Back has 32 rooms, about 64 guests at two a room, and a lawn listed at 180 seated. The Serai has 20 residences, about 40 guests. Red Earth Kabini lists 21 cottages. A bigger list means guests driving at night on forest roads, which we advise against.

Evolve Back gives 235 km, about four and a half hours by the expressway. The Serai gives 220 to 230 km, four to five hours via NH 275 and SH 33. Red Earth gives 220 km. Mysore airport is the nearest: 75 to 90 km depending on the resort.
What does a Kabini wedding cost?
Neither Evolve Back nor The Serai publishes a wedding price; both quote a buyout on request. The quote will combine rooms, meals and the spaces you use, so ask for it itemised, with taxes, and compare it against the number of guests who can stay.
Can we serve alcohol at a Kabini resort wedding?
At Evolve Back, the listing says there is no in-house bar and outside alcohol is permitted. The Serai runs a bar, The Outpost, but publishes no policy on outside alcohol. Red Earth runs a licensed bar and allows no outside alcohol. Get the answer in writing from the resort you choose.
Are fireworks allowed at a Kabini wedding?
Plan as if the answer is no. Both resorts sit beside national parks, and neither publishes a fireworks policy. Ask in writing before you plan any fireworks, sky lanterns or drone shots.
Is Red Earth Kabini an option for a wedding?
