147 thatched-roof villas cascading down the hillside, a beach ceremony at golden hour with white frangipani and tropical palms, and three days that Amar's London colleagues still ask about.

Jimbaran Bay's gentle arc of private beach, the warm shallow waters of the Indian Ocean, and the Four Seasons' 147 thatched-roof villas stepping down the hillside like a Balinese village — this is the setting that Amar and Divya had seen in photographs for two years before deciding it was the only place for their wedding. Our Bali team had worked at the Four Seasons Jimbaran on six previous weddings. We knew exactly what it could do.

The beach ceremony at golden hour required coordination with the Four Seasons' tide schedules — the Jimbaran beach at low tide provides a ceremony footprint that simply does not exist at high tide. We scheduled the ceremony for the 47-minute window of optimal beach access on a March afternoon, timing the mandap positioning, aisle layout, and guest seating to the tide prediction data.

The mandap was constructed from white frangipani and tropical palm — materials that exist in abundance in Bali and that photograph against the ocean light with a clarity that imported flowers cannot match. The 147 guests, who had come from London, Mumbai, and across India, sat on the beach in the golden March light and watched Amar and Divya marry in a setting that made several people describe it as the most beautiful thing they had witnessed.

Three days later, as the last guests were leaving, Amar's colleague from his London office — a man who had attended weddings on four continents — found our team lead and said: 'I have been to forty-six weddings. This was different.' He did not elaborate. He did not need to.
