How we would design a wedding at Aashrey Getaway
The house is already a set and the mistake would be to cover it. Carved timber columns, terracotta floors, a brass lamp on the verandah and a low tiled roof — that is a Kerala visual language with its own rules, and decor should extend it rather than overlay a different one. Work in white jasmine, gold, banana stem, brass and unbleached cotton, and put the mandap or the seating so the carved verandah is the backdrop. The lawn is small, which is an advantage: at fifty guests you can afford density, so a full floral ceiling over the seating is affordable here in a way it never is at four hundred. The two gazebos are the natural anchors for a haldi or a bar. Lighting is where the twenty-four-hour access pays: a proper evening plot with warm uplighting into the verandah roof and the trees takes a full afternoon to rig, and this is one of the few venues that gives you that afternoon.
