Per guest that is roughly $240–$790 for a city wedding and $390–$1,300 for a multi-day destination wedding. Guest count moves the number more than the city does. What does a wedding in India cost in US dollars?
An intimate 50–150 guest wedding runs $21,000–$63,000, a mid-size 150–400 guest wedding $63,000–$260,000, and a grand 400-plus guest production $260,000 and upwards. Those are ₹20–60 lakh, ₹60 lakh–₹2.5 crore and ₹2.5 crore-plus, before GST and before flights.

What is the per-guest cost of an Indian wedding in dollars?
Budget roughly $240–$790 per guest for a city wedding and $390–$1,300 per guest for a multi-day destination wedding. A city wedding assumes guests sleep at home; a destination wedding assumes a two or three night stay, and guest rooms then account for 50–65% of the budget. That single difference explains most of the gap.
Per-guest cost does not fall smoothly. It dips between 100 and 150 guests, where production, photography and planning spread across more people, then climbs past 200 as venue tier rises. What does $100,000 buy at a wedding in India?
$100,000 is ₹95 lakh, which buys a 200-guest wedding at a city five-star in Bangalore, or a 150-guest three-day destination wedding in Goa or Kerala with room to spare. It does not stretch to 200 guests at a top-tier Goa beach resort, which starts nearer $130,000.

What does A$100,000 or C$100,000 buy?
We do not publish an Australian or Canadian dollar rate, so the honest method is to convert your own figure into rupees at whatever rate your bank quotes on the day, then read the rupee column of every table on this page. All our bands are rupee-native; the dollar, pound and dirham columns are conversions, not separate price lists.
We hold three currencies because those are the three we are asked to quote against often enough to keep honest and refresh each quarter. A fourth rate left to drift for a quarter would misprice a budget by more than the convenience is worth. So for families in Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto or Vancouver: take your ceiling, convert it once to rupees, and bring that rupee number to the first call. How does the same 200-guest wedding compare in Bangalore, Goa and Kerala?
A 200-guest wedding costs ₹50 lakh–₹1.5 crore ($53,000–$160,000) as a city wedding and ₹80 lakh–₹2.5 crore ($84,000–$260,000) as a multi-day destination wedding. Bangalore is usually the most cost-efficient of the three because local guests sleep at home. Kerala is typically the cheapest to feed. Goa sits at the top of the India range.
The like-for-like line across the three is the per-plate rate, quoted the same way everywhere. The catering column below is that rate multiplied out for 200 guests across three functions — arithmetic on published rates, not a quote. Accommodation is the swing factor: near zero in Bangalore where guests live in the city, 50–65% of the budget in Goa or Kerala.

Which exchange rate do we use, and who carries the currency risk?
We use ₹95.14 to the dollar, ₹128.12 to the pound and ₹25.90 to the dirham, fixed in August 2026 and refreshed each quarter with our cost index rather than pulled live. You carry no currency risk on the contracted amount, because we quote, contract and invoice in rupees. The only thing that moves is the foreign-currency amount you send to fund it.
A live rate would look more precise and read worse: a price that changes between two visits reads as a moving quote, and the contract is in rupees anyway. Fixing it quarterly also means two members of the same family, reading from New Jersey and from Dubai, see the same arithmetic.
So once a rupee figure is agreed, a falling rupee makes your wedding cheaper in dollars and a strengthening rupee is capped to what you have already funded. Payment staging is in our budget guide for couples living abroad.
What are the equivalents in pounds and dirhams?
₹1 crore is about $110,000, £78,000 or AED 390,000; ₹50 lakh is about $53,000, £39,000 or AED 190,000. The ladder below converts the round rupee numbers Indian venues and vendors actually quote in, so you can price any quote you are sent without doing the arithmetic twice.

What does catering cost per plate?
Per-plate rates run $21–$37 at banquet halls and four-star hotels, $37–$58 at a mid-range five-star, and $58–$89 at a palace or ultra-luxury property. Catering is the largest single line on almost every Indian wedding, and it is quoted per plate, per function — so multiply by guest count and by how many functions you are feeding.

Premium liquor, live counters and custom menus sit on top of these, as do service charge and GST.
Five-star hotels usually charge no venue fee and hold you to a minimum food and beverage spend instead, so the guaranteed count is the most important number in your contract — and it is negotiable. Garden estates charge a flat day rental and leave catering to you, which below 500 guests is usually 30–40% cheaper. The venue decision framework works through when each wins.
What do decor and the planning fee add?
Decor runs ₹2–10 lakh ($2,100–$11,000) for an intimate wedding, ₹8–40 lakh ($8,400–$42,000) mid-size and ₹40 lakh–₹3 crore-plus ($42,000–$320,000) at grand scale. Wedding planning fees are quoted for the agreed scope: a fixed fee against a written scope, not a percentage of spend and not a commission from vendors. You pay vendors directly at their own rates. How other Indian planners charge is on wedding planner charges in India.
What is not in any of these numbers?
Flights, outfits, jewellery, GST and service charge are all outside every figure on this page. Tax and service alone add 12–18% on top, and for families flying in from the US or Australia the travel line can rival a whole function.

Why does the same money buy more in India?
Because Indian weddings are priced in rupees against a local cost base — venue, kitchen, floral market, design and production team — while your income is earned in a stronger one. A ₹1 crore wedding, 150 guests over three days at a five-star Goa beach property, converts to about $110,000. In India that number commissions the country’s best hotels and a fully in-house design team.
