Kerala destination wedding costs are different from Goa costs, different from Bangalore city hotel costs, and different from what most planning blogs quote. This guide gives you real 2026 figures based on what we have actually spent at Kerala properties in the last year, category by category.

We cover two scenarios: a 100-guest, 2-day mid-range wedding and a 50-guest, 2-day luxury wedding. These represent the two most common planning scenarios for Kerala destination weddings at our studio.

Why Kerala Wedding Costs Are Different — The Honest Context

Kerala destination wedding costs differ from city wedding costs in a few specific ways that are worth understanding before you build a budget.

• Smaller vendor ecosystem. Kerala's destination wedding industry is smaller than Goa's or Bangalore's. For certain specialist vendors — advanced lighting engineers, specific floral designers, production teams — you may need to bring a team from Bangalore or Cochin, adding travel and accommodation costs to their fees.
• Property F&B commitment as venue cost. Unlike city hotels where you pay a venue rental separately, Kerala destination properties typically charge through a minimum F&B commitment or room block rather than a venue fee. Understanding the F&B commitment structure is essential to accurate budgeting.
• Guest travel and accommodation. At a destination wedding, you are typically responsible for coordinating (and in many cases subsidising) guest travel and accommodation. This is a cost that city wedding budgets do not include.
• The authenticity value. Kerala's traditional elements — the sadya feast, local florals, classical arts performances — are both less expensive and more culturally valuable than imported alternatives. Couples who choose traditional Kerala over imported-design alternatives typically produce a more distinctive wedding at lower cost. Scenario 1 — 100 Guests, 2-Day, Mid-Range Kerala Property

This is a wedding at a mid-range Kerala destination property — a 4-star heritage resort at the backwaters, a lake resort in the ₹8,000–12,000/room/night range. Two functions: ceremony and reception over two days. 100 guests.

Where Kerala Saves Money — The Authenticity Advantage

The most cost-efficient decisions at a Kerala destination wedding are the most culturally authentic ones. This is an unusual situation — it is common in wedding planning for authenticity and luxury to pull in different directions. In Kerala, they align.

• The sadya feast. A full traditional sadya for 100 guests — 24+ dishes on banana leaves, cooked by local chefs using locally sourced ingredients — costs ₹1,200–2,000 per person. A multi-cuisine live station buffet for the same guests, using imported ingredients and specialist chefs, costs ₹3,500–5,000 per person. The sadya is more traditional, more meaningful, more memorable, and less expensive. Choose it.
• Traditional florals. Fresh jasmine, chrysanthemum, marigold, and banana stems are grown across Kerala and available at costs far below imported roses or orchids. A mandap decorated with locally sourced traditional florals costs 40–60% less than an equivalent structure decorated with imported garden flowers. It also looks more appropriate to the setting.
• Classical arts entertainment. A Kathakali or Mohiniyattam performance for 100 guests costs ₹80,000–2,00,000 depending on the troupe and the duration. This is dramatically less expensive than a Bollywood DJ or live band for the same duration — and it provides a cultural experience that no city wedding can replicate.
• The landscape as decor. Kerala's natural settings do design work that no artificial decor can replicate. Coconut groves, backwater surfaces, clifftop views — these are the primary visual experience. Decor that frames these elements rather than trying to compete with them is both cheaper and more beautiful than maximalist interventions.

Where Kerala Costs More — The Honest Caveats

• Guest travel and accommodation. Destination weddings require guests to travel — and many couples choose to subsidise some or all of this travel for immediate family. A couple with 50 outstation guests, each requiring a ₹5,000–15,000 flight round-trip, faces a potential guest travel subsidy of ₹5–10 lakhs that a city wedding does not require.
• Vendor travel from other cities. Bringing a specialist decor or photography team from Bangalore to Kerala adds ₹50,000–2,00,000 in travel and accommodation costs to the vendor's fees. Some vendors include this in their package; others charge it separately.
• Production logistics. Decor elements that need to be transported from Bangalore — structural components, custom fabric work, specialist lighting equipment — incur logistics costs (truck hire, ₹30,000–1,00,000 depending on volume) that don't apply to locally sourced decor.

The Budget Principle — Invest in Experience, Not Infrastructure

The most consistent lesson from our Kerala wedding budgets over the years is this: the money that produces the highest return in guest experience and in the couple's memory of the day is invested in experiences — the sadya, the Kathakali, the houseboat cocktail cruise, the sunrise ceremony on the lake — not in infrastructure — elaborate structural decor, custom lighting rigs, imported floral walls.

Kerala is the destination in India where the natural and cultural setting does the most work. The coconut grove is already beautiful; you do not need to fill it with imported flowers. The backwater sunset is already extraordinary; you do not need a production-level lighting setup. Invest in the elements that use what Kerala provides — and allocate the budget saved from unnecessary infrastructure to experiences that are unique to this destination and genuinely memorable for your guests.
