Kiran & Malvika
Kochi → Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, Sinquerim, North Goa
A 17th-century Portuguese fort transformed into a luxury resort, a ceremony of genuine gravitas, and a wedding that Kiran and Malvika wanted to feel like it existed outside of time — it did.
There is no more historically atmospheric wedding venue in Goa than Taj Fort Aguada. Built in 1612 by the Portuguese as a strategic defence against Dutch and Maratha forces, it has watched four centuries of history pass from its clifftop above Sinquerim Beach. When Kiran and Malvika told us they wanted their wedding to feel like it existed outside of time, there was only one possible venue.
The design approach was deliberately restrained. When your backdrop is a 400-year-old fort wall and the Arabian Sea beyond it, adding decoration becomes a conversation about what to remove rather than what to add. We used only traditional Indian elements — brass diyas, marigold garlands, white jasmine — that would have been recognisable in the fort's own historical context.
The ceremony in the Fort Aguada Ballroom was the emotional heart of the day. The ballroom's Portuguese arched windows, framing the sea beyond, required no additional decoration. One hundred and fifty chairs, a mandap of marigold and sacred basil, a pandit whose family had performed ceremonies in this fort for three generations, and a ceremony that moved at the pace of the ritual rather than the production schedule.
At the end of the evening, Malvika asked to be left alone at the clifftop railing for a few minutes. Looking out at the lighthouse and the dark sea beyond, she said she understood for the first time what people meant when they described a sense of history — the feeling that the place itself remembered things you could not. 'I will come back here,' she said, 'for the rest of my life.'
