Quick Answer · Destination Wedding Budget Bands India

A destination wedding in India costs ₹10 lakh at 50–80 guests, ₹20 lakh at 100–150 guests, ₹30 lakh at 150–200 guests and ₹50 lakh at 200–250 guests, for a two-function wedding at a good property in Bangalore, Goa or Kerala. Venue and catering take 35–45% of the total. Of the 279 venues in our database with published rates, 137 fit a 150-guest wedding inside ₹20 lakh. The arithmetic for every band is below, venue by venue.

Couples do not search for a place. They search for a number. The most common way an Indian destination wedding gets planned in 2026 is that somebody decides what the family can spend, and then everything else is reverse-engineered from it — which is exactly backwards from how most wedding-cost pages are written, and why so few of them help.

This page runs it the way couples actually run it. Pick your band. Read what it supports. Then look at the venues whose own published rates fit inside it, with the multiplication printed so you can check it against your own guest list rather than take our word for the total.

How the bands are built

Every figure here comes from one of two places. The venue and catering numbers are computed from the 279 venues in our database that publish a rate: per plate at hotels and resorts, per function at standalone properties. Each is multiplied out at the guest count and printed next to the venue name. The share that venue and catering take of the whole budget, 35–45%, is the allocation we publish in the Indian wedding planning guide and use on live weddings.

The two charging models are not interchangeable, and the difference decides which band a venue belongs in. A hotel quotes per plate against a minimum guarantee, so its number moves with your guest count. A standalone property quotes a per-function rental and lets you bring a caterer, so its venue line is fixed and its food line is yours to control. At the lower bands that second model is usually what makes the number work. There is more on both in how Indian wedding venues actually charge if that page is where you want the mechanics.

What sits outside every band on this page: guest flights, the couple’s outfits and jewellery, and 18% GST on hotel and catering invoices. Room nights are called out separately in each band because at a destination wedding they are the line that most often breaks a budget that looked fine on paper.

Under ₹10 lakh — the intimate wedding

This band is real, but only at a guest list under about 80. It buys a single-day or two-function wedding for close family, and it rewards the rental-plus-outside-catering model over the hotel per-plate model every time.

On the 35–45% allocation, an all-in budget of ₹10 lakh leaves ₹3.5 lakh–₹4.5 lakh for venue and catering together. That is the number to test a venue against, and it is the test we ran across every priced venue in our database. Two functions is the assumption throughout: one pre-wedding function, then the ceremony and reception.

Notice what happens at 50 guests: fewer venues qualify than at 100, not more. That is not a budget effect. It is the minimum-capacity floor. A property built for 300 will not open for 50, whatever you are willing to spend. Under about 100 guests the binding constraint stops being your budget and becomes which venues will take a wedding that small at all, and that is the single most useful thing to know before you start looking. Read the larger guest counts in that table carefully: they show where the venue and food still fit inside ₹4.5 lakh, which at 200 guests means a rate near ₹1,100 a plate. The rest of a 200-guest wedding — decor, photography, planning, contingency — will not fit in the ₹5.5 lakh that would be left. Past about 100 guests this is a ₹20 lakh wedding wearing a ₹10 lakh label.

Under ₹20 lakh — the most-planned band in India

This is where most of the destination weddings we are asked about actually sit. ₹20 lakh runs a proper two-function wedding for 100 to 150 guests with a designed decor build rather than a package, at a good four-star property.

On the 35–45% allocation, an all-in budget of ₹20 lakh leaves ₹7 lakh–₹9 lakh for venue and catering together. That is the number to test a venue against, and it is the test we ran across every priced venue in our database. Two functions is the assumption throughout: one pre-wedding function, then the ceremony and reception.

The supply opens up sharply at this band, and it opens up fastest in Bangalore, which has both the deepest venue market of the three and the shortest travel for a mostly South Indian guest list. If your guest list is closer to 100 than 150, this band also starts to reach properties that a ₹10 lakh budget cannot approach.

Under ₹30 lakh — 200 guests, or three functions

At ₹30 lakh you choose between more people and more programme. It runs a 200-guest two-function wedding comfortably, or a 120 to 150-guest wedding across three or four functions with a mehendi and a sangeet built as their own designs.

On the 35–45% allocation, an all-in budget of ₹30 lakh leaves ₹10.5 lakh–₹13.5 lakh for venue and catering together. That is the number to test a venue against, and it is the test we ran across every priced venue in our database. Two functions is the assumption throughout: one pre-wedding function, then the ceremony and reception.

Room nights are what decides this band. The wedding itself fits easily. A 200-guest destination wedding where most guests stay two nights carries a room bill that a city wedding with the same guest list simply does not have, and it is worth pricing that before you fall in love with a property.

Under ₹50 lakh — where the venue stops being the constraint

At ₹50 lakh almost every property in our database is reachable at 200 guests. The question changes from what you can afford to what you actually want built.

On the 35–45% allocation, an all-in budget of ₹50 lakh leaves ₹17.5 lakh–₹22.5 lakh for venue and catering together. That is the number to test a venue against, and it is the test we ran across every priced venue in our database. Two functions is the assumption throughout: one pre-wedding function, then the ceremony and reception.

This is the band where the design brief, not the venue rate, decides the final number. Two weddings at the same property with the same guest list can differ by ₹15 lakh on decor alone, and neither is wrong. What matters at this level is that the quote is itemised, so you can see which line is buying the thing you care about.

What actually moves the number

Across every band, the same four levers do most of the work, and only one of them is the destination.

LeverWhat it doesWorth knowing
Guest countMoves the total more than anything else on this pageEvery guest is a plate at every function, a chair, a favour and often a room. Cutting 30 guests saves more than changing city.
Number of functionsEach function multiplies catering and decorTwo functions to three is roughly a 40–50% rise in the food line, not 33%, because the third is rarely the smallest.
Room nightsThe line that breaks destination budgetsAt a destination wedding, guest rooms can reach 50–65% of the total if the family is paying for them. Decide early who pays.
Season and daySame venue, different numberPeak season and a Saturday cost more than a shoulder-month weekday at the same property. Our Goa season guide has the shape of it.

Common questions

Can you have a destination wedding in India for under ₹10 lakh?
Yes, at a small guest count. ₹10 lakh all-in supports roughly 50 to 80 guests over two functions, and it works best at a rental venue that allows outside catering rather than at a hotel on a per-plate minimum. Of the priced venues in our database, 64 can take a 100-guest wedding whose venue and catering land inside the ₹3.5–4.5 lakh this band allows for them. What ₹10 lakh does not buy is a five-star ballroom, a large room block, or a three-day programme.
How many guests can ₹20 lakh cover at a destination wedding in India?
₹20 lakh all-in comfortably covers 100 to 150 guests over two functions in Bangalore, Goa or Kerala, leaving ₹7–9 lakh for venue and catering. 137 priced venues in our database fit that at 150 guests. Guest count moves this number more than the destination does: the same 150-guest wedding costs broadly the same in all three places, and it is the room nights, not the ceremony, that separate them.
Is a 200-guest wedding possible under ₹30 lakh?
Yes. At 200 guests, 160 priced venues have venue-and-catering rates that fit inside the ₹10.5–13.5 lakh that a ₹30 lakh budget allows. The pressure at that size moves from the ceremony to the guest rooms: a 200-guest destination wedding where most guests stay two nights adds a room bill that a city wedding does not carry.
What does ₹50 lakh buy at an Indian destination wedding?
₹50 lakh all-in buys a 150 to 250-guest, two to three-function wedding at a good four or five-star property, with a designed decor build rather than a package, professional photography and film, and a real contingency. 221 of our priced venues fit at 200 guests, which means at this band the venue stops being the constraint and the design brief starts being the thing that decides the number.
Which is cheapest for a destination wedding: Bangalore, Goa or Kerala?
At the same guest count and the same standard of property the three are closer than couples expect, and the difference is driven by room nights rather than by the wedding itself. Bangalore has the deepest supply at every band, so it offers the most choice inside a fixed budget. Kerala’s per-plate rates run lowest of the three at the mid tier. Goa carries the highest room cost in December and January, and the lowest in the monsoon shoulder. The honest answer is that your guest list decides your budget, and the destination decides what that budget buys you.
Do these figures include flights and outfits?
No. Every figure on this page covers the wedding itself: venue, catering, decor, photography, entertainment and planning. Guest flights, the couple’s outfits and jewellery sit outside it, and for families flying in from abroad the flights are usually the single largest line that is not on the wedding budget at all.
