The hall building at Shubha Mangala — a low white single-storey block with a columned front, seen from the lawn beneath the branches of a large tree
WedMeGood listing gallery — public listing reference · checked 2026-09-11

Shubha Mangala is a multi-purpose hall at Hiremath Layout in Kothanur, on the Hennur side of North-East Bangalore, and it has been operating since 2011. The listing records one banquet hall at six hundred seated. What the listing does not record, but the gallery shows clearly, is the garden: a wide lawn with mature trees standing in front of the building, strung with lights and used for evening functions.

That combination is the reason to look at it. A hall of this size with a real lawn attached is not common at ₹650 a plate, and the trees on that lawn are grown rather than planted last year, which is what gives the evening photographs their depth. The building itself is plain — a single-storey block with columns and a portico — so the character comes from the grounds rather than the architecture.

The listing is thin, which is normal for a long-established local hall. There is no rental figure, no room count, no parking record, and the catering policy contradicts itself between the structured field and the written description. None of that is disqualifying, but it does mean the site visit has to do more work than usual, and the questions below are the ones to take with you.

  • Hall listed at 600 seated / 1,200 floating at Kothanur
  • A mature-treed lawn in front of the hall, visible in the gallery though not in the listing data
  • Catering listed at ₹650 veg and ₹700 non-veg per plate
  • Outside decorators permitted; outside alcohol and outside DJs both permitted
  • Operating since 2011
  • No accommodation on site

Designed, not just planned

Wedding planning & decor at Shubha Mangala Multi-Purpose Hall: how we would design it

The trees are the asset and the building is not, so the design money should go outside. Mature trees on a lawn give you something almost no venue in this price band has: real vertical structure to hang from and light through. Wrap or uplight the trunks, run suspended lighting between the canopies rather than on poles, and let the ceiling of the outdoor space be the trees themselves. The gallery already shows a version of this with warm strung lighting, and it is the single most effective spend available here. The hall is the opposite case: plain walls, a flat ceiling and a shallow stage, which means the build has to supply everything. At 600 seated that is a large surface to cover, so concentrate on the stage and the aisle and leave the side walls dark rather than half-treating the whole room. One practical point about the lawn: the ground under mature trees is uneven and root-bound, so a seated dinner out there needs the levels checked and either a floor laid or the seating plan worked around the roots. Check the power supply too — an older hall's sanctioned load rarely covers a lawn lighting scheme and a kitchen at the same time.

Which function goes where

HaldiThe lawn in the morning, under the trees. The canopy here is real, which makes a daytime function far more comfortable than on an open lawn.
MehendiThe lawn or a portion of the hall. Ask whether the hall can be partitioned; at 600 seated, a 150-guest mehendi in the full room will feel thin.
SangeetThe hall, or the lawn with strung lighting as the gallery shows. Outside DJs are permitted. Kothanur is residential, so get the sound cut-off in writing.
Wedding ceremonyThe hall for the muhurtham, with the lawn used for arrival and the reception. That sequencing keeps the ritual weather-proof and puts the trees into the evening.
ReceptionThe lawn at dusk. The gallery's best frames are all of the garden lit at night, which tells you where the property is strongest.

Season and weather

The hall makes any month possible. The lawn is at its best from November to February and workable under the tree canopy into March. Between June and September plan indoors and treat the garden as the arrival space rather than the function space.

Arrivals, access and logistics

Kothanur sits on the Hennur Road side of North-East Bangalore, straightforward from Hennur, Kalyan Nagar, Banaswadi, Thanisandra and HBR Layout, and connected to the airport along Hennur Road without crossing the city. With no accommodation on site, outstation guests go to the Hebbal or Kalyan Nagar hotel cluster. Parking is not recorded on the listing at all, which on a layout address in Kothanur is the first thing to check on the visit.

An honest read

Is Shubha Mangala Multi-Purpose Hall the right venue for your wedding?

Right for you ifNorth-East Bangalore families in the Hennur, Kothanur, Kalyan Nagar and Thanisandra belt running a traditional wedding at 400 to 600 seated on a controlled budget, who want a garden as well as a hall.
Look elsewhere ifAnyone needing rooms on site, and anyone who wants a venue where every detail is settled before the visit — this listing leaves several open.
Planner tipGo and see the lawn before you decide anything else. The listing records this property as indoor space only, with one hall, and makes no mention of the garden at all — but the garden is the best thing about it, and it is what the evening photographs will be of. Get the lawn's usable area, its seated capacity and whether it is included in the hall booking or charged separately, all in writing, because none of it is on the public record.

Asked and answered

Shubha Mangala Multi-Purpose Hall wedding questions

What does a wedding at Shubha Mangala cost?

The listing gives ₹650 per plate vegetarian and ₹700 non-vegetarian, taxes extra, checked 11 September 2026. No venue rental is published, so the hall hire has to be asked for directly. For 500 guests on a vegetarian menu the food line is roughly ₹3.25 lakh before taxes and before hall hire.

How many guests can Shubha Mangala hold?

The listing records one banquet hall at 600 seated and 1,200 floating, with a stated range of 600 to 1,200. The lawn's capacity is not published at all. Ask for both figures in writing, and for the seated capacity of the hall with a stage and service aisles in place rather than the empty-room number.

Does Shubha Mangala have a lawn?

Yes, although the listing does not record it. The structured data files the property as indoor space only, but the gallery clearly shows a wide lawn with mature trees in front of the hall, used for evening functions with strung lighting. It is the property's best feature, and its capacity and terms have to be established on a site visit.

Can you bring your own caterer to Shubha Mangala?

The listing contradicts itself. Its structured catering field says in-house catering only; its written description says the venue is free to work with caterers of the client's choice. Ask the venue directly which applies to your date, and if an outside caterer is allowed, whether a kitchen-access charge goes with it.

Can you bring your own decorator to Shubha Mangala?

Yes. The listing records outside decorators as permitted. On this property that freedom is worth using on the garden rather than the hall: the mature trees give you real structure to light and hang from, which is uncommon at this price and does more for the evening than anything built indoors.

Does Shubha Mangala have rooms?

No room count appears on the listing, so plan on the basis that there is no accommodation and no getting-ready suite. The wedding party dresses at home or at a hotel and arrives at the venue, which means the morning transfer has to be scheduled — for a pre-dawn muhurtham that is the step that most often runs late.

Is alcohol allowed at Shubha Mangala?

Yes, and both ways: the listing records in-house alcohol as available and outside alcohol as permitted. That gives you a choice between the venue's supply and your own. Ask for the in-house rates, any corkage on outside supply, who holds the licence and the bar close time.

Can you bring your own DJ to Shubha Mangala?

Yes. The listing records an in-house DJ as available and outside DJs as permitted. Ask what the in-house setup covers before hiring separately, and get the sound cut-off time in writing — Hiremath Layout is residential, and an outdoor function on the lawn carries further than a hall does.

Is there parking at Shubha Mangala?

The listing does not record parking at all, which is unusual and worth taking seriously. On a layout address in Kothanur, a 600-guest wedding puts a large number of cars onto residential streets. Ask where guests actually park, how many cars fit on the property, and whether valet parking is arranged or has to be hired.

How old is Shubha Mangala?

The listing records a start year of 2011, so the hall has been operating for about fifteen years. The mature trees on the lawn are consistent with that. An older property usually means a settled operation and dated finishes in equal measure, so look at the changing areas and the washrooms on the visit, not just the hall.

Where is Shubha Mangala?

It is at Hiremath Layout in Kothanur, on the Hennur Road side of North-East Bangalore. Straightforward from Hennur, Kalyan Nagar, Banaswadi, Thanisandra and HBR Layout, and connected to the airport along Hennur Road without crossing the city. Send guests the pin location rather than the layout name.

What should you settle before signing at Shubha Mangala?

Six things, because this listing leaves more open than most: the hall rental; the lawn's usable capacity and whether it is included; which catering model applies; the parking arrangement; whether the hall can be partitioned for smaller functions; and the available electrical load, since a lawn lighting scheme plus kitchens will test an older supply.
