Taj Exotica sits on the beach at Benaulim — a quieter, more exclusive stretch of South Goa's coastline. The drive from Dabolim Airport takes under an hour, according to Taj, and the road through Benaulim village creates a sense of arrival — you leave the modern world behind gradually. The resort itself is self-contained: 140 rooms on 56 acres of gardens (Taj), with the lawns running down to the sand. The beach at Benaulim is wide and clean, with calm waters and extraordinary golden-hour light.

The St. Regis Goa, the former Leela Goa, sits further south on the Mobor peninsula at Cavelossim. Cvent puts the nearest airport, Dabolim, 37 km away, against 27 km for Taj Exotica. Its setting is the more dramatic of the two: the resort sits between the Sal river and the Arabian Sea, so it has both a beachfront and riverside lawns. The approach feels grand: a long driveway through the property's own landscape, arriving at a reception that signals scale and formality from the first moment.

At Taj Exotica, most ceremonies stand on the Beach Lawns: 3,716 sq m of grass with the Arabian Sea as the backdrop, 800 at round tables on Taj's own chart. The lawn's geometry is exceptional: it allows a mandap setup with the sea directly behind it, framing the ceremony with natural grandeur that no decor team needs to manufacture. A mandap on the sand itself needs the resort's sign-off and Goa's coastal-zone permissions for your date, so most couples take the vows on the lawn with the sea a few steps behind.

The St. Regis offers more varied settings, which suits a multi-day celebration that wants a different place for each function. Marriott's chart puts the Great Lawns at 400 at dinner rounds and 600 at a reception, and the seasonal Beach at 350 and 500. The Riverside Lawns on the Sal river and Coconut Grove take the smaller functions, and the Astor Ballroom (180 at rounds) or the covered Glasshouse (350 at rounds, 600 standing) serves if you want the ceremony indoors.

Both properties deliver exceptional catering — this is one area where the comparison is genuinely close. The Taj Group's catering standards are among the highest in India, and Taj Exotica specifically has a reputation for exceptional seafood and live station presentations. The kitchen team is experienced with multi-community menus (North Indian, South Indian, Jain, Continental, and fusion) and manages large guest counts with remarkable consistency.

The St. Regis prices catering per person against each space. Marriott's events page lists ₹14,999 a person for a dinner or reception and ₹4,999 for lunch, while WedMeGood shows a ₹3,500 vegetarian starting plate (both checked 26 September 2026). At both resorts the catering and the bar are in-house, so the menu tasting is where you negotiate.

Taj Exotica starts at ₹5,500 a plate on WedMeGood; at The St. Regis the two published figures disagree, so plan on Marriott's until you hold a written menu. Price moves with menu complexity, the number of live stations and the banquet format. Neither is inexpensive, and neither should be compared on price alone — what you're buying at both properties is consistent execution at high volume, which is worth every rupee.

Choose Taj Exotica if: Your list is large and you want everyone on one lawn by the sea: the Beach Lawns take 800 at round tables and 1,700 standing (Taj). You want a refined, classic Taj wedding. A ceremony with the sea directly behind the mandap, and the waves audible, is important to you. You value the Taj brand's service culture and attention to personal detail. Your wedding aesthetic is classic and elegant rather than expansive and dramatic. You are willing to accept fewer rooms on site (140 rooms means some guests will stay nearby).

Choose The St. Regis Goa if: You plan a multi-day celebration (mehendi, sangeet, ceremony and reception on separate days) and want a different setting for each: river, grove, lawn and beach on one property. You want a covered rain plan at lawn scale; the Glasshouse takes 600 standing (Marriott). You want a larger room block on site, 206 rooms on WedMeGood, for guests flying in.
