Which Place in India Is Best for Your Wedding?

The question is usually asked as though there were a single best place. There is not, and the honest answer is short: your guest list picks the destination, and the destination decides what your budget buys. A hundred and fifty people flying in from New Jersey, London and Dubai make a different choice from a hundred and fifty people driving up from Chennai and Coimbatore.

What follows is the comparison we run internally when a family asks. Same criteria for all four, our own venue records underneath it, and the trade-off named in each case rather than smoothed over. Every count and every median on this page is computed from our venue database, which holds only properties we have worked at or verified directly.

Goa, Kerala, Coorg or Bangalore: which is best for a destination wedding?

Bangalore wins on supply and arrival, Goa on setting, Kerala on value at the mid tier and Coorg on privacy. Supply is the least romantic criterion and the most predictive: a deep market gives you real alternatives when your first choice is gone on your date, which on a peak-season Saturday it will be.

Read the median column rather than the headline names. The lowest rate in any market belongs to a venue with a constraint attached — a capacity floor, a vegetarian-only kitchen, an outside-catering rule — and tells you less about the market than the middle of it does. On these medians Kerala sits lowest at the mid tier, Bangalore and Goa run close together, and Coorg runs several times higher because its market is almost entirely estate resorts. There is no budget tier in Kodagu; that is the point of the place and the reason it costs what it does.

Depth also decides how hard a shortlist is to build. Bangalore holds 392 venues in our records against 26 in Coorg, so the same brief that produces a twenty-property shortlist in Bangalore produces a four-property one in Coorg. If your dates are fixed and your guest count is large, that difference matters more than any single venue you have seen photographs of. How do guests fly in, and how long is the transfer?

Bangalore is the only one of the four with direct long-haul arrivals and a transfer under ninety minutes; Goa needs a connection, Kerala is strongest for Gulf-based families, and Coorg has no airport at all. This is the criterion that decides most weddings planned from abroad, and the one most often left until after a venue has been chosen.

If a meaningful part of your guest list is flying in, price the flights before you fall for a venue. It is routinely the largest number in the exercise, it never appears on the wedding budget, and it is the one line where the destination choice moves the total by lakhs rather than by thousands. Count connections rather than kilometres: one connection is often the difference between a guest who comes and a guest who sends a gift. Which months work in each place?

November to February is peak everywhere, and all four are meaningfully cheaper outside it. October is the value month in three of the four. The exception is Coorg, where June to August is not a functional wedding season at all rather than merely a risky one.

A flexible date is worth more than any negotiation. Moving a wedding from a December Saturday to an October Thursday at the same property changes the number more than any discount you will be offered on the December date. Coorg adds one further consideration: February and March bring the coffee blossom across the estates, which is the single most distinctive backdrop in the four and sits just outside the peak-rate window.

How many guest rooms does each place hold on site?

Bangalore and Goa are the only two of the four that can put a large guest list to bed in one place. For a wedding planned from abroad this matters more than the ceremony lawn, because guests moving between hotels is the hardest thing to manage remotely.

Sixty-five Bangalore properties and sixty Goa properties in our records list a hundred rooms or more. Kerala has twenty-seven and Coorg one. A 250-guest wedding that wants everyone on the property is therefore a straightforward brief in Bangalore or Goa, a narrower one in Kerala, and in Coorg a question of booking out an estate and accepting that some guests sleep elsewhere. Decide who sleeps on site before you build the guest list, because that single answer sets the transport plan for every day of the programme.

What does the same wedding cost in each place?

For 150 guests across two functions, the median venue-and-catering figure in our database runs from roughly ₹3.75 lakh in Goa to ₹10.5 lakh in Coorg. These are medians of the venues that publish a per-plate rate and can seat 150, so food is included and decor, accommodation, travel and production are not.

Two things to read carefully. First, the gap between Goa and Bangalore is narrower than the reputation of either suggests, because Bangalore’s median is pulled up by hotel banqueting and Goa’s is pulled down by a large mid-market resort base. Second, none of these numbers is your wedding. They are the middle of a market, useful for deciding which market to shop in and useless as a quote. Which permits and licences does each place need?

Goa is the only one of the four with a permissions file worth planning around, and only when the ceremony is on public sand. On a resort beach or a sea-facing lawn the property holds the permissions and your contract covers them. Everywhere else the constraint that actually binds is the sound cut-off.

The pattern across all four is the same: the venue absorbs the paperwork when the ceremony is on its own licensed ground, and you absorb it when it is not.
