A rental estate costs the same for 200 guests as for 300; a hotel with no rental charges you per plate, so every extra guest is a full extra plate.

The entry plates on our Bangalore venue cost table, checked in September 2026, are ₹3,000 at Conrad Bengaluru, ₹3,200 at JW Marriott, ₹3,500 vegetarian at The Ritz-Carlton, ₹4,000 at ITC Gardenia and ₹4,500 at Taj West End and The Leela Palace; the bands we work to once the menu tier is set run ₹3,500–₹9,000. Three hundred plates at ₹3,000–₹4,500 is ₹9–13.5 lakh of food for one function before service charge and GST; a sangeet and a wedding day make that ₹18–27 lakh before a flower has been ordered. Which lines do families underestimate most?
Five lines, in the order we see them missed: the minimum plate guarantee at hotels, decor repeated across two or three functions, service charge and GST on catering, the set-up day at rental estates, and the small vendor lines that never make the first spreadsheet: purohit and samagri, printed invitations, return gifts and guest transport.
- Minimum plate guarantees. Taj West End and The Leela Palace charge no venue rental. Each space carries a food-and-beverage minimum expressed as a plate count: our records put Taj West End at about 200 plates for the Prince of Wales Lawns and about 100 for the other spaces. Bring fewer guests and you pay a shortfall on the remainder, usually negotiated below the full plate rate. Ask for the minimum per space, per function, in writing.
- Decor multiplied by functions. The decor bands are per look. A mehendi, a sangeet and a wedding morning are three looks, and the most common decor spend for 150–250 guests across three functions is ₹12–20 lakh, not the ₹5–12 lakh a single function suggests.
- Service charge and tax. Per-plate rates are quoted before service charge, typically 10–15%, and GST. Compare caterers on the all-inclusive figure after both, which our catering guide walks through venue type by venue type.
- The set-up day. An outdoor build genuinely needs the evening before. On a ₹7.5 lakh-a-day estate such as Samaya, whether that evening is charged as a full rental day moves a two-day wedding by ₹7.5 lakh. At kalyana mantapas the equivalent lines are the refundable cleaning or damage deposit, typically ₹10,000–₹50,000, extra rooms at ₹1,500–₹4,000 a night, the AC surcharge and electricity above the fixed allowance.
- The small vendor lines. From our vendor cost table: purohit and samagri ₹30,000–₹50,000 typical, printed invitations ₹100–₹200 a card, return gifts ₹200–₹400 a piece, bridal makeup ₹15,000–₹30,000 a look. Multiply the per-piece lines by 300 and they stop being small.
Is ₹10 lakh realistic for a Bangalore wedding?
Yes, for a single-function wedding of up to about 200 guests at a kalyana mantapa or rental garden venue with an outside caterer. The budget band for 100–200 guests is ₹8–15 lakh, and the median of the one- and two-day weddings we have run is ₹7.6 lakh ($8,000 / £5,900). It does not stretch to a five-star hotel.
The arithmetic for 200 guests works like this. A kalyana mantapa rents for roughly ₹1–6 lakh a day in 2026: neighbourhood halls in Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Basavanagudi and Malleshwaram mostly list ₹1.5–3.5 lakh, community and trust halls ₹50,000–₹1 lakh, and the newer convention centres in Yelahanka and Whitefield ₹2.5–6 lakh. Halls sell slots rather than days, and the one to ask for is the 24-hour block that covers the reception evening and the muhurtham the next morning. A South Indian vegetarian meal from the hall kitchen or an approved caterer runs ₹350–₹1,200 a plate, which is ₹0.7–2.4 lakh for 200 guests. Essential decor is ₹3–5 lakh and the low band for photography and video ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh. That totals roughly ₹5–15 lakh before 18% GST on the rental; ₹10 lakh holds if the hall and the decor sit in the lower half of their bands.
At 300 guests the same plan still works with a vegetarian meal and one function, but the 300–500 guest budget band starts at ₹15 lakh for a reason: a second function, a non-vegetarian menu or a rental estate each push past ₹10 lakh on their own. Any five-star hotel is out of range at this budget, since 200 plates at the ₹3,000 entry rate is ₹6 lakh of food for a single function. What does a two-day Bangalore wedding cost at a garden estate versus a five-star hotel?
At Samaya a 150-guest two-day wedding lands around ₹26–34 lakh all-in and 300 guests ₹30–39 lakh. At Moongate the same programmes are ₹36–44 lakh and ₹41–51 lakh. At Amita Rasa, ₹60–90 lakh for 150 guests. At The Leela Palace a 500-guest two-day wedding runs ₹1.5–2.5 crore. All indicative, from weddings we have produced.

Read the rows left to right and the shape of the decision appears. A rental estate is a flat line: Samaya at 500 guests is only ₹5–9 lakh more than at 150 because the ₹15 lakh of two-day rental is already paid and the plates are cheap. A hotel is a slope: The Leela Palace figure is ₹45–80 lakh of food and beverage at 500 guests, two functions and ₹4,500–₹8,000 a plate, plus ₹15–40 lakh of rooms and ₹15–50 lakh of decor, before photography, entertainment and planning. Which is cheaper for you depends on where your guest count sits on those two lines, and it is the first thing we work out with a family, before any venue visit.
Two more two-day facts: Amita Rasa has seven rooms, so guests stay at nearby hotels and transfers become a line; and at every estate, ask whether the set-up evening is charged, because the answer moves the rental line by a full day.
How much do decor and the other vendors add on top of venue and catering?
Decor runs ₹3–5 lakh essential, ₹5–12 lakh signature, ₹12–20 lakh luxury and ₹20 lakh and above for ultra-luxury, with grand multi-day productions reaching ₹50 lakh. The remaining vendors for a 300-guest wedding, excluding venue, catering and decor, add about ₹3 lakh at the low band, ₹6–7 lakh typical and ₹15 lakh and above at the high band.

Decor is the line with the widest honest range because it is the one that is designed rather than priced from a list. The sweet spot for a single function at a premium hotel is ₹10–12 lakh; a garden estate at dusk needs less structure and more light. We design and fabricate mandaps and stages in-house, which is why our decor quotes arrive as a dimensioned drawing and a material list rather than a package name, and why two quotes for "the same look" can differ by lakhs.
