A Proper Reddy Wedding: Kishan & Inchara at Utsavaa, Bangalore

Grand, luxurious and carefully designed — a carved-stone temple mandap in red rose and jasmine, a ceiling of a thousand red garlands indoors, and the highlight: a purple wisteria reception stage under a rain of glass bulbs at Utsavaa, Electronic City.

Grand, and meant to be

Some weddings whisper. A proper Reddy wedding does not. Kishan and Inchara's celebration at Utsavaa, near Electronic City in South Bangalore, was designed to be grand and luxurious at every turn — a carved-stone temple mandap dressed head to foot in red rose and jasmine, an indoor sanctum under a ceiling of a thousand red garlands, and, for the reception, the stage everyone is still talking about: a purple wisteria set under a rain of glass bulbs. Every element carefully designed, nothing left to chance.

The highlight: the purple reception stage — wisteria columns, a petal-core monogram ring, bulbs raining from the greenery ceiling.

The stone mandap, dressed in red and white

Utsavaa's carved-stone pavilion is monumental before a single flower goes up, so the design worked with the stone instead of hiding it. Along the cornice we hung a full run of red-rose swags with cowrie-shell tassels; the pillars took jasmine-net lattices threaded with red roses, and freestanding garland columns of tuberose banded in rose cones and pineapple-lily collars framed every opening. At the base, the venue's stone elephants sat half-buried in beds of red roses and baby's breath, wearing their own garlands.

A ceiling of a thousand garlands

Indoors, the ceremony hall got the set that made guests stop at the door: thousands of red floral strands hung from a circular frame, falling from the full height of the dome and stepping down into a lit ring at the centre — a chandelier made entirely of flowers — over a round ivory platform with two silver chairs and a rangoli of red and gold petals. Candelabras, urns of red and white roses, and brass lamps closed the circle. It reads like a temple sanctum scaled for six hundred people, which is exactly the brief a Reddy wedding sets.

The quieter chapters

Between the grand sets, the wedding kept two softer rooms. A blush-and-ivory stage under a full flower ceiling, where a curtain of gold beads parted around a deity silhouette framed in red velvet, flanked by towering arrangements of blush roses and trailing wisteria, with a brass Nandi resting at the centre of the red carpet. And for the morning rituals, a garden pooja corner: a Krishna painting framed in banana plants, strings of tuberose and lotus buds overhead, a garlanded brass Nandi, temple lamps and a vintage gramophone — the South Indian home shrine, rebuilt at venue scale.

Why Utsavaa carries this scale

Grand weddings fail on logistics before they fail on design, and this is where Utsavaa earns its place: a purpose-built 14-acre estate near Electronic City with genuinely distinct corners — the stone pavilion, the lawns, the banquet halls — so the temple-grammar ceremony and the purple contemporary reception could both be built full-size without one compromising the other, plus 500-car parking for a guest list this social. For our crew, three parallel full-scale builds on one property is the difference between grand-on-paper and grand-on-the-day.
