Wedding designers in India: who designs your decor, what it costs and how to judge one
A wedding designer, more exactly a wedding decor designer, decides how your wedding looks: the concept, the drawings, the materials and the flowers. A decorator supplies and installs the decor, and a planner runs the budget, the vendors and the schedule. Panigrahana is a wedding design and planning studio that designs and builds decor in Bangalore, Goa and Kerala, and as of October 2026 its decor starts at ₹5 lakh plus GST.
The fair test of any designer is whether the build matches the moodboard you approved. You can check that before you pay, with a dated drawing, an itemised scope and a meeting with the people who will build it. Our own carpenters, welders and florists build Panigrahana decor from our production warehouses in Bangalore, Goa and Kerala. Our designers work alongside them, so design and build sit with one team.

What does a wedding decor designer do?
"Wedding designer" also means the people who make bridal clothes, so this page says decor designer wherever the difference matters. A wedding decor designer takes your brief and your venue and turns them into something a crew can build. You will also see the titles concept designer, set designer and wedding stylist. Firms use these words differently, so look at the work and not the title.
The work, in order
- The brief. A form of likes and dislikes, the images you have saved, and the functions you are planning.
- The venue. Ceiling height, power, the load-in route, where the sun sits at the hour of the function, and the venue's rules on what may be built.
- Concepts. A few directions to choose from, before anything is detailed.
- Detail. Florals, colours, sketches, 2D layouts and 3D renders, so you can see the design before it exists.
- Scope. An itemised proposal that says what is custom-built, what is reused and what is hired.
- Build and install. The drawing goes to the crew, and someone has to answer for the set matching it.
What does a wedding stylist do, and what does one charge?
The title varies by firm, so judge the scope; Panigrahana quotes design and decor together from ₹5 lakh plus GST, confirmed by the business owner on 4 October 2026, and that floor is a decor minimum for the wedding, not a stylist's fee.
Some people use the word for the decor and some for the bride's look, so first ask which job is on offer. If it is decor, ask three things in writing: who draws it, who builds it, and whether styling is a separate fee or sits inside the decor quote. Then compare the total for the same functions at the same venue, because a low fee on its own tells you little about the final bill.

Wedding designer vs decorator vs planner: who does what?
The Indian wedding trade already splits this work in three. WeddingSutra's 2026 Influencer Awards list every function under Planning and Overall Management, Design, and Décor Execution. Many firms do two of these or all three, so the useful question is which of them your quote covers.
| Decor designer | Decorator | Planner | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main job | Decides how the wedding looks and draws it | Supplies and installs the decor | Runs the budget, vendors, schedule and the day |
| What you receive | Concept, moodboard, scaled layout, 3D render, list of materials and flowers | An itemised setup, installed on site | Budget, vendor shortlist, timeline and run sheet |
| Who builds the decor | The firm's own crew, or a decorator it briefs | Its own crew and stock, plus anything it hires | Depends on the firm: an in-house team, a decor company or a designer brought in |
| Ask them | Can I see the drawing beside a finished build? | Which pieces are custom-built, stock or hired? | Who designs the decor, and who builds it? |
| Start here when | The look is your first concern | You know the look and want it installed well | You want one person holding the whole plan |

Go deeper on the roles
How much does a wedding decor designer cost in India?
As of October 2026, Panigrahana's decor starts at ₹5 lakh plus GST. That is a minimum for a wedding's decor, not a price per function and not the total wedding budget. Venue, rooms, food and other suppliers are separate, and planning, if you want it from us, starts at ₹2 lakh a day for two events plus GST.
A designer's fee is harder to pin down. We looked for a published fee for a stand-alone wedding designer in India and found none as of October 2026, so compare decor quotes and not design fees. Our mandap prices below already include the design work.
| Element | Simple | Signature | Statement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mandap | ₹90,000 to ₹1.5 lakh | ₹3 lakh to ₹4 lakh | ₹9 lakh to ₹15 lakh |
| Reception stage | ₹80,000 to ₹1 lakh | ₹4 lakh to ₹6 lakh | ₹10 lakh to ₹12 lakh |
Mandap prices cover the structure, florals, riser, carpet, seating and design. Stage prices cover the fabric and florals. Each is one line inside a decor engagement, so the ₹5 lakh plus GST minimum still applies.
A statement mandap and a statement stage together come to ₹19 lakh to ₹27 lakh, before entrances, ceilings, sound, light, furniture or transport. On our latest decor invoices, flowers took about 30% of the bill, structures 20%, sound and light 20%, and transport and furniture 20%, with the last 10% across everything else. If a quote you hold has no line for one of these, ask where that cost went.
What moves a decor quote
- The grade of flower, and the mix of natural and artificial.
- Skilled finishing, which is where a build looks right or looks rushed.
- Whether carpet and fabric are new for your event or reused.
- The quality and upkeep of the furniture.
- The venue's access window, and what it allows you to build.

What do wedding set designers do and charge in India?
A wedding set designer draws the mandap, stages and entrances to fit your venue, and on the sets Panigrahana built, read from decor invoices on 8 October 2026, a mandap with its design ran from ₹90,000 to ₹15 lakh and a reception stage from ₹80,000 to ₹12 lakh.
Each set is one line inside a decor engagement, so our ₹5 lakh plus GST minimum still applies. A set can drift from its drawing at full size, so ask for an elevation with heights marked, and for the mandap and stage as separate lines marked custom-built, reused or hired. If you are bringing in your own decorator, check the venue first: the venues at Bangalore Palace Grounds, Wiwaha and the Le Roma group charge an outside decorator a fee, while most Bangalore venues we book charge none.

Will the build match the moodboard you approved?
The complaint that keeps coming up in wedding forums is plain: things on the moodboard were not installed, and everything had been agreed on WhatsApp. So the fair test of a wedding designer is whether the build matches what you approved. Here is where the gap opens, and what to ask for.
| Where the gap opens | What to ask for |
|---|---|
| Scale. A look that works on a small sample can fall flat at full size. | An elevation with heights marked, and a sample of any finish you will stand close to. |
| Flowers. A variety may not be available in your month. | Flowers named by variety, with the agreed substitute written beside each one. |
| Changes. A late message changes the build and nobody records it. | A dated drawing set attached to the proposal, and each change recorded with its cost. |
| Site. The ceiling, power or access rules do not fit the design. | A scaled layout made from measurements taken at the venue, with the venue's rules in writing. |
| Time. The crew runs out of hours before guests arrive. | The start time, the finish time, and who checks the set against the drawing before doors open. |
“A finish that looks beautiful on a small sample may not necessarily create the same impact on a 50- or 100-foot structure.”
That is Dharmesh Makati, founder of Z Events, speaking to EVENTFAQS in September 2026. It holds for every designer, and it is why scale sits at the top of that table.

Here is what we do. Our design work runs from sketches and moodboards to 2D layouts and 3D renders, so you can see a design before it is built. Our standard is to finish at least two hours before doors, with the sound and light test done. No designer can promise a perfect day, and we do not. What you get is something to check the build against, and a team you can ask about it.
If you are planning from abroad, ask to see samples and the site on a video call. When you plan with us, you get a weekly video check-in with your planning team, at a time set for your time zone.

How do you judge a wedding designer before paying?
These questions work on any designer, including us. Ask them on a call, then ask for the answers in writing.
Nine questions, in order
- Can I see one finished wedding in full? You want the date, the venue and the whole set of photographs, with guests in the frame.
- Which of these images are concepts, which are 3D renders and which were built? Each one should be labelled.
- Can I see the drawing beside the finished photograph? That pair is hard to fake.
- Who builds it? The firm's own carpenters, welders and florists, a regular fabricator, or whoever is free that month. Any answer can work if it is honest and matches the contract.
- Can I meet the person who will run my build? Reference images that are not the firm's own work are a warning sign, and so is a maker you are never allowed to meet.
- How many weddings does this team have on my dates?
- Can I see the scope line by line? Sizes, flower varieties and materials, with each item marked custom-built, reused or hired.
- Can the mandap and the stage be separate lines? Then you can see which level you are paying for.
- What happens when something changes? Ask who approves it, and how the cost and the date are recorded.
If a firm answers these clearly and in writing, you have done the checking. After that, choose the designer whose work you like best.
Why does design and build in one house help?
Our own carpenters, welders and florists build Panigrahana decor from our production warehouses in Bangalore, Goa and Kerala. Our designers work alongside them, so design and build sit with one team. Our own teams make the decor. Anything we hire is itemised in your proposal.
Here is where it helps. When a drawing will not work at full size, the designer and the carpenter are already in the same conversation, before the problem reaches your venue. When a flower has to change, the florist and the designer settle the substitute together and you see it in writing. The design team on a wedding covers florals, floral detailing, AV and production tech, and structures, with both founders on the vision.
Other firms in India also build their own decor, so put the same questions to anyone on your shortlist. One house is not the right answer for every wedding either. If you already have a designer you love, a good decorator can build to a clear drawing.
If you would like planning from us too, one team designs your decor, builds it and runs your plan, with weekly check-ins and vendor payments itemised in your private portal.
What should parents check before approving a decor design?
If you are paying for the wedding, you do not need an opinion on design. You need to know what is being bought, what is left out and who answers for it. Ask the designer for one page you can read at home and share with the family.
What that page should show
- The functions, with the decor for each one.
- The cost of each element, and the total with GST.
- What is custom-built, what is reused and what is hired.
- What is separate: venue, rooms, food and planning.
- Who approves changes, and how a change is recorded.
- The payment dates, and what each payment is for.
A fair question is why you would pay a designer if you are also paying a decorator. When one firm designs and builds, you pay once, and our mandap prices above already include the design. When they are two firms, ask for two documents, so you can see what each one covers.
A simple mandap and a simple stage are a good brief too. Tell the designer what you want to spend and ask where it should go. The money usually does most at the mandap, the stage and the entrance, where guests stop and look.
How do planners work with a wedding decor designer?
Planners in India bring decor design into a wedding in three common ways: they brief a decor company, they bring in a named designer for one wedding, or they use their own design team. Each can work. Agree early who presents to the family, who approves the design, who pays whom and who is on site.
If you are a planner, an event company or a designer who needs decor built, our production house page sets out what we build and how a job runs. We also plan weddings for couples, so agree client-protection terms in writing before you share a client's details.
Where does Panigrahana design and build wedding decor?
We have our own teams and production warehouses in Bangalore, Goa and Kerala, with no team travel charge in those three markets. We also work across the drive-to Karnataka belt, from Coorg and Mysore to Hampi and Gokarna, and abroad in Thailand, Bali and Europe. Inside India we do not take weddings beyond these places. If yours is elsewhere, the checks on this page still work, and a team with a standing crew near you will serve you better.
| Place | What shapes the design | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| Bangalore | Hotel ballrooms, kalyana mantapas, lawns and estates, each a different design problem | Wedding designer in Bangalore |
| Goa | Wind, the direction of the sunset, and what may be built on sand | Goa wedding decor |
| Kerala | Existing architecture, boat access at some resorts, and humidity | Kerala wedding decor |
Can a Mumbai or Delhi family hire Panigrahana for wedding design?
Yes, when the wedding itself is in Bangalore and the drive-to Karnataka belt, Goa, Kerala, Thailand, Bali or Europe, because Panigrahana's service area on the fact sheet, with regional teams confirmed on 4 October 2026, follows where the wedding happens, so a wedding held in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai or Hyderabad sits outside it.
If your family lives in another city and the wedding is in our area, distance need not leave you in the dark: you get a weekly video check-in with your planning team, and a private web portal holds the payment schedule, updates and published meeting notes between calls. If the wedding is in your own city, look for a team with a standing crew near the venue, and ask where the build will be made and who pays to move it.

What should you do next?
You now know what a decor designer does, what builds cost and what to check before paying. Send us your venue or shortlist and the images you keep going back to. A planner replies within 24 hours to talk it through, whoever you end up booking. If you would rather start on your own, build a decor brief first and bring it to any designer.
Questions couples ask
What is a wedding designer in India?
The phrase means two things in India: someone who designs bridal clothes, and someone who designs the decor. A wedding decor designer decides how the wedding looks, from the concept and drawings to the materials and flowers, and then has it built. Panigrahana is a wedding design and planning studio working in Bangalore, Goa and Kerala, with decor from ₹5 lakh plus GST as of October 2026.
Is a wedding designer the same as a wedding decorator?
Not quite. A designer decides the look and draws it for your venue. A decorator supplies and installs the decor, often from stock it owns. Many firms in India do both, so ask who draws your design, who builds it, and whether the quote says what is custom-built, reused or hired. Those answers tell you more than the title.
How much does a wedding designer charge in India?
We have not found a published fee for a stand-alone wedding designer in India as of October 2026, so compare decor quotes. Panigrahana's decor starts at ₹5 lakh plus GST. On invoices read on 8 October 2026, our mandaps ran from ₹90,000 for a simple one to ₹15 lakh for a statement one, and our reception stages from ₹80,000 to ₹12 lakh. The mandap figures include the design work.
Is design charged separately from the decor?
On Panigrahana's mandaps the design work is inside the built price. Design and decor are quoted together for their scope and production, and planning is quoted separately. Ask any firm which line covers design, so you can see what you are paying for.
Do we need a wedding designer if we already have a planner?
Ask your planner who designs the decor. Some planners have a design team, some brief a decor company and some bring in a designer for one wedding. If the look matters most to you, ask to meet the person drawing it and see one of their finished weddings in full. If your planner's team already does this well, you may not need anyone else.
How do we make sure the decor matches the moodboard?
Approve a dated drawing set, not a moodboard alone, and attach it to the proposal. Ask for flowers named by variety with agreed substitutes, heights on an elevation, and a sample of anything you will stand close to. Then ask who approves changes and how each one is recorded with its cost. No designer can promise a perfect day, but these steps give you something to check the build against.
Who are the best wedding designers in India?
We know of no independent ranking of wedding designers in India. Awards are one public signal: WeddingSutra's 2026 Influencer Awards name Design and Décor Execution winners for each function. Use lists like that to build a shortlist, then judge each name on a finished wedding you can see in full, the drawing behind it and the people who built it.
Can a wedding designer work with our own planner or decorator?
Yes. Design and decor can be quoted separately from planning, and we have worked alongside coordinators a family appointed. Agree who presents to the family, who approves changes and who is on site. Planners who need decor built can start on our production house page.
Does Panigrahana design weddings outside Bangalore?
Yes. We have our own teams and production warehouses in Goa and Kerala as well as Bangalore, with no team travel charge in those three markets. We also work across the drive-to Karnataka belt, and abroad in Thailand, Bali and Europe. Inside India we do not take weddings beyond these places.
