Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort is KTDC's heritage hotel on Bolgatty Island in Kochi, built around a palace Dutch traders put up in 1744. KTDC publishes the wedding hire: ₹85,000 for the Pool Side Lawn, ₹2,50,000 for the Palace Lawn and ₹2,75,000 for the air-conditioned Event Centre, plus 18% GST.

It is not Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty. Both are on Bolgatty Island, but the Grand Hyatt is a separate 264-room hotel with the Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Centre beside it, while Bolgatty Palace is the government-run resort with the old palace, the golf course, the marina and the Bolgatty Event Centre. How we would design a wedding at Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort (KTDC)

The 1744 palace and the lawns overlooking the backwater are the setting, and the design should let them lead: a low mandap facing the palace, lanterns rather than truss, and the backwater lit at the edge after dark. The Event Centre is a large neutral hall, so it needs one strong stage wall and a lit ceiling to read as a wedding. Everything must go up and come down inside KTDC's six hours or pay ₹20,000 an hour, so we draw the set to be built fast.

Season and weather

December to March is the dry window for the lawns. The southwest monsoon (June to September) makes every lawn booking a gamble, so the Event Centre has to be held as the rain plan. KTDC's own peak-period rules are stricter from 20 December to 5 January and over Onam, Pooja and Diwali holidays (14-day cancellation terms on rooms), so book those dates early.

The island sits across the backwater from Marine Drive (KTDC). Guests flying in land at Cochin International Airport and drive to Kochi. With 36 rooms on the tariff, plan overflow at the Marine Drive hotels and run shuttles to the island by timed slots.
