Vivanta Ernakulam, Marine Drive, the hotel that used to be The Gateway Hotel Marine Drive, is a 108-room IHCL hotel on the Kochi harbour front. Its pillarless Waterfront Hall is 588 sq m and IHCL rates it for up to 800. WedMeGood lists plates at ₹1,100 vegetarian and ₹2,150 non-vegetarian, taxes extra, and outside decorators are allowed.
It is a city wedding hotel. The brief it answers well is a reception of 300 to 600 in one room, a muhurtham at a temple in town, and guests who would rather stay on Marine Drive than on an island. The three smaller rooms, Anchor (100 at most), Marina (70) and Beacon (40), take the engagement, the mehendi and the family dinner.
For Panigrahana the design problem is the Waterfront Hall. A room 42 m long and 14 m wide is easy to fill and hard to make intimate, so we would set the stage on the long wall and keep every table within about 15 m of it, instead of seating the back rows 40 m away.
