A seated dinner with a stage, a dance floor and service aisles needs materially more room per head, so ask the venue to confirm the seated number for your exact layout, function by function.

A rental. Sumatra is a standalone venue, not a hotel, so you take the property for the day at an agreed rate and contract catering separately on top. Its public listing shows 'Price on Request' with taxes extra — no published tariff — and the venue quotes per date, season and number of days. Yes. Both the venue's own site and its WedMeGood listing describe outside catering, and Berhawa, the thatched banquet pavilion, has built-in kitchens and restrooms for the caterer to work from. That is a real advantage for families who want an Iyer, Udupi, Jain or sattvic cook rather than a hotel kitchen's interpretation. Confirm kitchen access hours, any per-plate outside-catering charge and equipment provision in the contract.

This one needs to be settled in writing before you commission any design. Sumatra's WedMeGood listing states decor is by 'decorators from our panel', while the venue's own site offers decor and design services alongside venue rental. Ask for the policy for your date, including any access or royalty fee and whether it varies by space, before a mandap is drawn.

The public position is contradictory and worth confirming for your specific function. Berhawa, the semi-covered thatched pavilion, is the only built covered space, and the venue puts it at roughly 160 seated. Everything else — Asri, Palem, Rumput, Hutan — is open to the sky. So for any function larger than about 160, the backup is a temporary structure that has to be specified, priced and agreed at contract stage. Ask what it seats, who supplies it, what it costs and how late the weather call can be made.

Three: two Bali-styled villas and one standalone room, which the venue says sleep up to 18 guests with extra beds. They function as the bride's and groom's getting-ready suites during a wedding. For a 400-guest evening that covers most arrivals; above that, plan shuttles from a JP Nagar or Jayanagar pick-up point so the residential approach road stays clear. Worth agreeing in writing whether valet staff and parking marshals sit inside the day rate or are billed separately.

Kempegowda International Airport is the long leg at roughly 50 km, which is 90 minutes to two hours depending on the time of day. Route flying-in guests to a city hotel the night before rather than making the airport run on a function morning.

Every space at Sumatra is open-air or semi-covered, so the 10 pm cut-off on outdoor amplified sound that applies across Bengaluru governs the evening, and there is no indoor room to move the party into afterwards. Plan the run-of-show around it: cocktails at 6.30, performances by 7.30, dance floor open by 9, dinner served alongside. Confirm the exact cut-off for your date with the venue in writing.

Rumput, the enclosed courtyard, for haldi at about 100. Hutan, the bamboo-framed pavilion, for a 60-guest mehendi — and it is the only good rigging point for suspended florals. Yes — Asri is an open lawn and the venue's signature setting is a mandap beside the water body at its edge, so open-flame homam is straightforward and ventilation is not a constraint. Agree fire placement and any matting or ground protection with the venue in advance. An early-morning muhurtham works particularly well here because the light across the palms and the water is at its best before nine.

It is one of the strongest shoot properties in South Bengaluru for its size — stone moon-gate arches, creeper-covered walkways, a palm grove, a thatched pavilion, two villas around a reflecting pool and a water-edged lawn, all within a short walk. The venue markets it for photo and film shoots as well as weddings. Ask for the shoot slot and any fee to be written into the wedding booking; couples holding a wedding there usually get the easiest yes.

Families with a seated list much above 600, because the property's scale and the single 160-seat covered space stop working. Anyone who needs a large air-conditioned hall for a daytime muhurtham or a monsoon-season date. And families who need a meaningful on-site room block — three keys is the entire inventory, so almost every guest sleeps elsewhere and you are running transport either way.

For a peak muhurtham weekend between November and February, 9 to 12 months. Sumatra is a small property with one main lawn, so there is no second date on the same weekend the way there is at a multi-hall convention venue — when a date goes, it is gone. Off-peak and weekday dates can often be held with 3 to 6 months' notice. Fix the guest count and function list first, then hold the date in writing while the estimate is built.
