A mandap bill is four lines, and they mirror the shape of any serious decor budget: roughly 40% flowers, 20% fabrication, 20% lighting and 20% labour and transport. The line couples always underestimate is labour — and it is the one we would never cut, because labour is what gives you the finishing. Couples on wedding forums genuinely ask whether a mandap can come down mid-ceremony — because occasionally, somewhere, one does. A mandap is a temporary structure that carries fabric loads, floral weight and lighting, sometimes outdoors in wind. It should be engineered like one. Three levers, in order. First, coverage: a structure outlined in florals versus a structure clad in them can double the flower line on its own. Second, the calendar: peak dates carry roughly 15% higher flower costs, which moves the total by about 5% — real, but smaller than couples fear. A mandap is a temporary structure carrying real weight, and safety is engineering, not luck. Ask who draws the structure before it is built. Fresh flowers where guests stand close — the mandap itself earns them — and high-grade dried or artificial material where nobody gets within arm’s reach, like ceiling installations, can cut the floral line 30–40% with no visible loss. What decides how it looks is the grade, not the category: low-grade artificial reads cheap at any distance, and imported fresh stems run four to eight times their local equivalents, so most premium mandaps use 20–30% imported accents in a local palette.

Why do mandap prices on B2B directories look so different?
Because they are not pricing the same thing, and often not in the same unit. On IndiaMART the mandap listings run from fabric quoted per metre to full event decoration quoted per day, with structures sold as products to decorators sitting in between. A couple reading that page is seeing a wholesale catalogue, not the cost of a finished ceremony setting. Always ask what unit a number is in and what it includes.
Does the mandap price include the riser, stairs, carpet and chairs?
Not automatically, and this is the most common gap between two quotes that look alike. The structure and platform are usually inside the mandap line; the riser height, the stairs, the carpet or flooring run, the seating for the families and the aisle treatment are often separate. Ask for the quote itemised, and ask specifically which of those five are in and which are out.
How much of the decor budget should the mandap take?
