The resort sits on 8 acres cut through with its own lagoons: 48 Malabar-style rooms and 20 villas along the water, built in red laterite with tiled roofs. The front office opens onto a lagoon beside a traditional oil lamp with more than 300 wicks. For a wedding the lagoons are the useful part, because they give every function a water backdrop without a boat.

The WedMeGood listing is generous on policy. It allows outside decorators, outside caterers and outside alcohol, with only the DJ kept in-house. Designed, not just planned

How we would design a wedding at Lakesong Kumarakom

Lakesong's architecture is red laterite, red tile and dark wood, so the palette should come from the building rather than from a catalogue. On the big lawn the lake is the long view; a stage that faces the water or sits side-on to it keeps the lake in every photograph. The hall is the better room for a sangeet because it is air-conditioned and pillarless, and a pillarless box takes a ceiling installation and a full dance floor. After dark, light the lagoon edges and the bridges first. People walk them between functions.

Cochin International Airport is the usual arrival, with a road transfer to Kumarakom; Kottayam is the nearest railway station. Eastend keeps country boats at the front office for rides on the resort's lagoons, which work well as a guest activity between functions.
