The Den is the Whitefield answer to a problem east-Bangalore families keep running into: a wedding big enough to need a thousand chairs, and a guest list that mostly lives east of the Outer Ring Road. Most properties in the corridor solve one of those and not the other. The Den has a 226-key tower and a lawn that takes 1,500 floating on the same plot, which means the sangeet, the muhurtham and the guest rooms are all inside one gate.

Architecturally it does not behave like a conventional banquet hotel. The ballroom is a long, pillar-free run with rod-drop crystal work dropping the ceiling plane in bands, and a carpet whose geometry already gives you a centre line. That is unusually helpful: you do not have to build an aisle, you have to light one. Outside, the lawn sits directly under the glass-and-steel elevation of the hotel, so the building itself becomes the backdrop after dark — a fact worth designing around rather than hiding behind drapes.

The trade-off is catering. The Den runs in-house only, so the food conversation is a menu negotiation, not a caterer hunt. Decor is open. Outside decorators are permitted, which is where a designer earns the fee here, because the raw room is contemporary and neutral and will take almost any direction you commit to.

Designed, not just planned

Wedding planning & decor at The Den Bengaluru: how we would design it

Two facts drive design here. First, the ballroom ceiling is already busy — long bands of rod-drop crystal running the length of the room. Adding a heavy ceiling installation fights it; the correct move is to keep the ceiling clear, wash the side walls in one colour and let the existing fittings read as your chandelier line. Second, the lawn's backdrop is a lit glass tower, which is a gift and a hazard: it photographs beautifully at blue hour and turns into a bank of mirrors under a flash. Put the mandap so the tower sits over the couple's shoulder in the wide shot, not behind the guest seating, and keep uplights off the glass. Rain backup is honest here — the lawn is open, so a 1,000-seated lawn plan needs a hard tented structure booked in advance from June to October rather than a hope. Power and rigging come off the hotel's own event distribution; ask for the ballroom rigging points in writing, because pillarless rooms often carry load only on the perimeter beams.

Which function goes where

HaldiLawn, morning. The east-facing open ground takes direct morning light and the hotel glass throws a second bounce onto faces — good for photography, and the lawn dries fast after overnight dew.
MehendiLawn under shade structures, or the pre-function corridor of the ballroom if the day is wet. Mehendi needs seated comfort and even light, and the covered pre-function run gives both.
SangeetBanquet hall. Pillarless means every table sees the stage and you can rig a truss the full length without a column in the throw.
Wedding ceremonyLawn for a mandap with the hotel elevation behind, or the banquet hall if the muhurtham is before dawn — a 4am ceremony outdoors in Whitefield in December is colder than families expect.
ReceptionBanquet hall at 800 seated, with the lawn released as an overflow cocktail and dinner floor. The two spaces are adjacent, so the crowd can move without a lift or a corridor.

Season and weather

November to February is the strong window — dry lawn, comfortable evenings. Monsoon (June–September) makes the lawn a gamble without a structure. December weekends and the January muhurtham cluster carry the highest rates and the tightest room availability.

Arrivals, access and logistics

ITPL Main Road is the single worst traffic artery in east Bangalore between 5pm and 8:30pm on weekdays. Schedule baraat and guest arrivals for a weekend, or brief guests to arrive before 5pm. The Whitefield metro extension has taken some pressure off, and guests coming from the city can now train to Whitefield and take a short cab. Vendor access for outside decorators should be negotiated for the previous night — a same-day build on a 1,000-seat lawn will not finish.

An honest read

Is The Den Bengaluru the right venue for your wedding?

Right for you ifEast Bangalore and tech-corridor families with 500–1,000 guests who want a contemporary five-star look, and overseas or out-of-town parties who need the room block and the venue on the same site.
Look elsewhere ifCouples who want their own caterer, a heritage or garden-estate character, or a venue where the wedding is the only event in the building that weekend.
Planner tipNegotiate the room block and the plate rate as one number. The Den's leverage is 226 keys; yours is that a wedding fills them on a weekend when the corporate market does not. Lock the room rate for the two nights either side of the muhurtham, not just the wedding night.

Asked and answered

The Den Bengaluru wedding questions

How many guests can The Den, Bengaluru hold for a wedding?

The listed capacities are 800 seated / 1,000 floating in the banquet hall and 1,000 seated / 1,500 floating on the lawn. In practice a 700–900 guest wedding sits comfortably with the hall for dining and the lawn for the ceremony. Above roughly 1,200 you are using both spaces at once and should plan two service kitchens. Confirm the final numbers in the venue's written proposal for your date.

Can I bring my own decorator to The Den?

Yes. The WedMeGood listing records outside decorators as permitted, which is the important half of the policy for a designed wedding. Catering is the restricted half — The Den is in-house only. So you can build an original mandap and lighting design here, but the menu conversation happens with the hotel's own kitchen.

Can I use an outside caterer at The Den, Bengaluru?

No. The listing records in-house catering only. That is standard for a five-star in Bangalore and it means your food budget is set by the per-plate rate you negotiate rather than by a caterer tender. Ask for tasting sessions for both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus before you sign, and get the plate rate fixed against the guaranteed guest count.

What does a wedding at The Den cost per plate?

The public listing reference is ₹1,600 per plate vegetarian and ₹1,800 non-vegetarian, taxes extra, checked 11 September 2026. Those are starting numbers and move with menu, season and guest count. The Den does not publish a hall rental; it prices the room, the plate and the block together, so the useful question to ask is the all-in number for your guest count and room nights.

How many rooms does The Den have for wedding guests?

226. That is the single largest room count of any hotel on the ITPL Main Road stretch and the main reason families with out-of-town or guests travelling from abroad choose it. For a 500-guest wedding with heavy outstation attendance, a 120–150 key block over three nights is a realistic ask and gives you real leverage on the plate rate.

Is alcohol allowed at The Den, Bengaluru?

In-house alcohol is available and outside alcohol is not permitted, per the listing. If your family has a specific bottle requirement — a particular single malt for the reception, or a regional spirit — raise it at the proposal stage; hotels will often source to order but almost never allow you to carry it in.

Is The Den suitable for an outdoor mandap?

Yes — the lawn is the strongest reason to book it. It carries 1,000 seated and sits directly under the hotel's lit glass elevation, so the building becomes the backdrop after dark rather than a wall you have to cover. From June to October you need a hard tented structure booked in advance; Bangalore's evening showers arrive fast and a fabric canopy will not save a 1,000-seat lawn.

How far is The Den from Kempegowda International Airport?

It is at the opposite end of the city from the airport — Whitefield in the east, the airport in the far north. Plan 75–110 minutes by road depending on time of day, and brief outstation guests to build that in. This is the one real weakness of a Whitefield wedding for a fly-in guest list.

Which metro station is closest to The Den?

The Purple Line's eastern extension now runs to Whitefield (Kadugodi), and the ITPL Main Road stations are a short cab ride from the hotel. For city-side guests this is genuinely useful on a weekday evening, when driving the same distance can take over an hour.

Can The Den host a multi-day wedding?

Yes, and it is the format that suits the property. Haldi and mehendi on the lawn, sangeet in the ballroom, muhurtham on the lawn or in the hall, reception in the ballroom — all within one compound with 226 rooms overhead. The planning question is not whether the spaces exist but how fast the crew can turn the ballroom between the sangeet and the reception; budget a four-hour changeover and a second set of linen.

Is there a rain backup at The Den?

The banquet hall is the backup, but it does not hold the lawn's full number — 800 seated against the lawn's 1,000. If you are planning above 800 on the lawn in a monsoon month, the honest answer is that a tented structure over the lawn is not optional. Decide that at contract stage, not two weeks out.

What kind of wedding does The Den suit best?

A contemporary one. The interiors are neutral, geometric and modern — no arches, no heritage detail, no garden character to work with or against. Couples who want a clean, designed, colour-led look get a very good canvas here. Couples who want a heritage or plantation feel will spend their entire decor budget fighting the room.
