Rosewood Valley is listed at 2,000 seated and 3,300 floating. Start there, because it is the fact that changes who this property is for. The name says intimate forest wedding, and the property does that too, but nothing else in Kodagu takes an open-air guest list that size. A family with a full South Indian invite list does not have to choose here between the landscape and the headcount.
The rest of the estate is graded well beneath that figure. The Grand Ballroom is 3,500 sq ft, pillarless, with an eighteen-foot ceiling and its own pre-function area, and it seats over four hundred. Queen's Court adds 2,000 sq ft with an exclusive entrance, and its terrace gives you an indoor room and an open-air one in the same setting, which matters more in hill weather than it sounds. The poolside is small at 60 seated. The Wilderness Lawn takes 100. A three-day wedding here never has to repeat a room.
Coorg Wilderness sits at Mekeri on the Virajpet road, four kilometres out of Madikeri, the fourth luxury property from Paul John Resorts & Hotels and open since 2019. What it looks like is a European hill estate that landed in Kodagu: sash windows, chandeliers, timber ceilings, long verandahs, 104 suites laid across a hillside of standing forest. None of it is air-conditioned. At this altitude the suites are warmed through the monsoon and the winter instead, which is a design decision rather than an omission.
- 104 all-suite keys at Mekeri, 4 km from Madikeri town — Paul John Resorts' fourth luxury property, open since 2019
- Rosewood Valley listed at 2,000 seated / 3,300 floating — the largest wedding setting in Kodagu
- The Grand Ballroom: 3,500 sq ft pillarless, an 18 ft ceiling and its own pre-function area, seating over 400
- Outside caterers and outside decorators are both permitted — rare at this tier
- Suites are deliberately unconditioned; at this altitude the rooms are warmed rather than cooled
- Listed at ₹3,000 veg / ₹4,000 non-veg per plate, with a ₹50 lakh-per-day full-property buyout figure

Designed, not just planned
Wedding planning & decor at Coorg Wilderness Resort & Spa: how we would design it
The building is doing a lot of the talking here, and that is the first decision: this is not a blank tent site. The Grand Ballroom has an eighteen-foot ceiling, chandeliers and sash windows down both long walls, so suspended installation works beautifully and anything floor-standing and tall simply competes with the room. We hang, and we let the windows stay windows. Outdoors the logic inverts. Rosewood Valley is open ground against standing forest, so structures need real presence and real anchoring, and a 2,000-seated layout there is a survey-and-level exercise before it is a decor exercise. Ground is soft in and after the monsoon: matting, cable runs and vehicle access to the valley all need walking before the layout is signed. Because there is no air-conditioning anywhere on the property, an indoor function for 400 in a wet month is a ventilation and dehumidification question as much as a floral one, and fabrics have to survive high humidity without going limp. The long pillared verandah between the blocks is the estate's quiet asset. Dressed as a floral aisle it gives you a covered processional that reads as a designed space rather than a corridor, whatever the sky is doing. Power and rigging loads for the ballroom and any valley build go to the events team in the production plan.
Which function goes where
| Haldi | The Wilderness Lawn or the forest clearing. Low, seated, green, and small enough that the morning stays unhurried. |
|---|---|
| Mehendi | Queen's Court Terrace. You get the valley view and a covered room two steps away, which is exactly what an afternoon function in the hills needs. |
| Sangeet | The Grand Ballroom. Pillarless, high-ceilinged and indoors, so the music programme is not governed by the 10pm outdoor cut-off. |
| Wedding ceremony | Rosewood Valley for a muhurtham at any scale Kodagu can produce, or the Grand Ballroom if the date sits in a wet month and the guest list is under 400. |
| Reception | The Grand Ballroom for a seated dinner, with the long pillared verandah as the processional into it. On a dry evening, Rosewood Valley with the ballroom held as the rain call. |
Season and weather
October to February is the dependable window, and February is the underrated one: dry, coffee blossom, easier availability. October is spectacular and wet enough to need the ballroom costed in as the fallback. December and January weekends go first. Monsoon runs June to September, when the estate is at its most beautiful and a ballroom-anchored wedding can still work. The valley is not the plan in those months, and pretending otherwise is how a programme breaks.
Arrivals, access and logistics
The resort's own site puts it 4 km from Madikeri town, about two hours from Kannur airport and a four-hour drive from Bengaluru. So a Bengaluru guest list travels by coach and car, and an overseas guest list can come through Kannur or Mangaluru instead of doubling back through Bengaluru. Arrival windows want staggering: 104 suites checking in at once is a reception jam. With 104 keys the estate sleeps a large share of most guest lists, which is the point of the buyout number. Vendor crews come up from Bengaluru, so load-in and teardown windows are agreed in advance and the schedule carries a travel day either side.
An honest read
Is Coorg Wilderness Resort & Spa the right venue for your wedding?
| Right for you if | Two quite different families. One wants an intimate forest wedding for thirty to a hundred, and gets it in the Wilderness Lawn and the poolside with a 104-suite buyout around it. The other has a full guest list and wants Coorg anyway, and Rosewood Valley is the only open setting in Kodagu that takes it. Both benefit from the outside-catering permission, which is rare at this level. |
|---|---|
| Look elsewhere if | Not for anyone who needs air-conditioning: the property does not have it, by design. Not for a family that wants a modern international-chain operating template, because this is an owner-run luxury estate with its own character. And a large open-lawn programme in the monsoon months is the wrong plan here, since the ballroom at 400 will not absorb a Rosewood Valley guest list. |
| Planner tip | Ask for Rosewood Valley's seated figure for your exact layout, in writing, before you fall in love with it. A 2,000-seated number assumes a particular arrangement. Add a stage, a dance floor and service aisles and the working capacity moves, and the gap between the listed figure and your real layout is the number the whole budget hangs off. |
The shortlist
Venues couples weigh against Coorg Wilderness Resort & Spa
Asked and answered
Coorg Wilderness Resort & Spa wedding questions
How many guests can Coorg Wilderness Resort hold?
Rosewood Valley is listed at 2,000 seated and 3,300 floating, which makes it the largest open wedding setting in Kodagu. Indoors, the Grand Ballroom seats over 400 across 3,500 pillarless square feet. Smaller settings run from a 100-seat Wilderness Lawn down to a 60-seat poolside, so the property scales from an intimate function to a full-size South Indian guest list.
How many rooms does Coorg Wilderness Resort have?
104 suites, all of them in four categories running from 870 sq ft to 1,350 sq ft. Every suite is a king room with a private balcony, and none of them is air-conditioned — at this altitude the resort warms rooms in the monsoon and winter instead. That room count is what makes a full-property buyout realistic for a stay-together wedding.
What does a wedding at Coorg Wilderness Resort cost?
The venue's listing shows ₹3,000 per plate vegetarian and ₹4,000 non-vegetarian, taxes extra, with rooms from ₹30,000 and an in-house decor starting price of ₹10,00,000. It also carries a destination-wedding figure of ₹50 lakh per day for all 104 rooms including rooms, three meals and the venue. Treat all of these as listing references and confirm live rates for your date.
Can I bring my own decorator to Coorg Wilderness Resort?
Yes. The listing records outside decorators as permitted. There is also an in-house decor team with a ₹10,00,000 starting price, which is worth reading as the floor the panel quotes from rather than as a benchmark for what an independent studio would cost. Get the vendor terms and any deposit in writing before you design.
Is outside catering allowed at Coorg Wilderness Resort?
Yes — the listing records in-house and outside catering both allowed, which is unusual at this tier and a real advantage if your family needs a specific community kitchen or a particular regional menu. Confirm whether the permission comes with a royalty or kitchen-access fee, and whether it differs by function, before you book the caterer.
What are the event spaces at Coorg Wilderness Resort?
Six, on the resort's own descriptions: the Grand Ballroom at 3,500 pillarless sq ft with an 18 ft ceiling and its own pre-function area; Queen's Court at 2,000 sq ft with an exclusive entrance; Queen's Court Terrace, an open-air terrace off it; the poolside by the infinity pool at 60 seated; the Wilderness Lawn at up to 100; and Rosewood Valley, the big open setting.
Is Coorg Wilderness Resort air-conditioned?
No, and deliberately so. The resort states that air-conditioning is not required anywhere on the property because of the altitude and the climate, and suites are cosily warmed in the monsoon and winter instead. For an indoor function of 400 in a humid month, ventilation and dehumidification are worth raising with the events team at the layout stage.
Where exactly is Coorg Wilderness Resort?
At Mekeri, on the Virajpet main road, Madikeri, Karnataka 571201. The resort puts it 4 km from Madikeri town, about two hours from Kannur airport and a four-hour drive from Bengaluru. Some directories place it at Gonikoppal, which is a different part of Kodagu — the Mekeri address is the one on the resort's own site.
Who owns Coorg Wilderness Resort?
It is the fourth luxury property from Paul John Resorts & Hotels, and it opened in 2019. That matters practically: it is an owner-run luxury estate rather than an international chain, so the operating template, the room design and the service style follow the group's own standards rather than a global brand manual.
What is the music cut-off at Coorg Wilderness Resort?
Karnataka's outdoor amplified-sound cut-off of 10pm applies here as everywhere in the state, and a hill property with neighbours takes it seriously. The Grand Ballroom is the answer for a function that needs to run late. The listing records an in-house DJ as available and outside DJs as permitted.
What is the rain plan at Coorg Wilderness Resort?
The Grand Ballroom is the built covered fallback, and its honest ceiling is around 400 seated. That covers a mid-size wedding comfortably and does not absorb a Rosewood Valley guest list. For a large outdoor programme, ask what the fallback is at your specific headcount, how late the call can be made, and who pays if the answer is a temporary structure.
When is the best time for a wedding at Coorg Wilderness Resort?
October to February. October is the greenest and the wettest of those. November through January are dry, cool and misty in the mornings, and those weekends book out first. February is the quiet pick — dry, coffee blossom in the air, and easier on rate and availability. Monsoon runs June to September and needs an indoor-anchored programme.
Can you buy out Coorg Wilderness Resort for a wedding?
Yes. The listing carries a destination-wedding rate of ₹50 lakh per day covering all 104 rooms, three meals and the venue. For a wedding where everyone stays on the estate for two or three nights, that is the number to negotiate against rather than assembling rooms, catering and space as separate lines.
How do guests reach Coorg Wilderness Resort?
Most come by road from Bengaluru, about four hours on the resort's own figure, with the last stretch on a ghat road. Kannur airport is roughly two hours away, which makes it the sensible arrival for overseas guests instead of doubling back through Bengaluru. Stagger the arrival windows — 104 suites checking in at once jams reception.
Is there a bridal suite at Coorg Wilderness Resort?
A bridal suite is listed among the property's facilities, alongside parking and valet, on-site catering, an in-house decor team, an on-site DJ, restaurants and basic lighting and electricity. All four suite categories are king rooms with private balconies, so the getting-ready room is generous whichever category the block ends up in.
